Detroit files bankruptsy is Chicago Next?

Well it was just a matter of time in Detroit but now Chicago 's unemployment an Illinois welfare rolls along with food stamp recipients has surpassed actual job holders no way they can afford this for long. But hey lets worry about those dang gun nuts an lets send some aid to Syria. The fed is printing 85 billion dollars a month to curb inflation just to keep the economy where it is. Maybe its time to pull all troops from everywhere home. Stop all aid to everyone outside the country till we get our house in order. I am tired of the cryies but people are dying over there. Wake up they are dying here.

We are dying one city at a time and one state at a time . You are right we need to clean up our own house ( White House ) then we will be strong enough to help others .

Someone must have accidently put "Detroit" on his teleprompter instead of "Chicago"

Detroit suffered (among other things) a complete collapse of its industry base, along with the resulting urban decay, and the exodus of over 250,000 residents, both of which knocked a huge hole in its tax coffers.

I understand that Obama went on TV last night to say "If I had a city, it would look just like Detroit........"

Upon thinking about this in more depth , look at all the vendors large and small businesses that will not get paid or pennies on the dollar. Many of the vendors that supplied goods or services may be family businesses and some of them will be put out to dry .

Actually, Stockton, CA is already there with at least 2 other CA cities (San Bernadino is one I believe). Not quite as sizable as Detroit, but pretty sizable none the less. The biggest danger is that a wave of cities and certain states (CA, UP, NY, PA, etc) decide this is he way to pawn off their own overspending. This will cause more bank failures than the housing bust when you consider all the financial institutions that have state and mini bonds as part of their capitalization. Hope everyone's personal finances are in order.

You are correct, however, it all starts at the local level, home, city councel, school board, etc....Unfortunately, there is no glory there.

Detroit lost almost a million citizens, yet being a thrall of the unions, the number of city employees continued to climb while the population went down. I was hired as a consultant by the city IG's office in the late 90's. I was appalled at what I saw, and that is coming from someone who lived for 30 years in Chicago (and many of my client base were city and county entities).
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

Every single city you mentioned has a Democratic Mayor.

I heard on the news today that Detroit's police response time is 58 minutes average. The national average is 11 minutes.

30% of Detroit's street lights are busted.

Ambulance and fire trucks break down on the way to emergencies.

    What a freaking mess.
