any ideas on this weapon?

Found this article in the newspaper today, and I am having a hard time coming up with an image of this "weapon" in my head for some reason.

"The device was a piece of metal with hinges that could be placed over a finger and bend with the finger. At the tip of the contraption was a point, similar to a knife point."

If anyone can identify this I would be interested in knowing what it is.
Sorry there isn't a picture but the article didn't give one, and if there was one, I guess I would have a better idea of what the "weapon" was.
