Look on Ebay. They have hundreds of them.

    Not so.
    Some are earned.
Others are handed out as commeratives.
Some are handed out as rewards.
Some only hand one out if they get one back.
Some you must be a member of a unit.

They are getting to be pretty popular.

Just my two cents, but my father wanted to get me a challenge coin, however, my wife told him not to. A lot of people (myself included) believe they should be earned, not bought. Maybe a better idea would be something to display the ones he already has in?

He served in Nam in the AirForce.

    That ought to do it.

well, it depends what the coin if for. If you get a cook an infantry unit coin, then no he didn't earn it.
if you get an Airforce Vietnam vet, an Airforce Vietnam coin, then yes he earned it.
Sometimes unit coins are bought by members of the unit, sometimes the CO hands out personal ones. There are many different kinds. Your old man earned one, just get him one that applies to his service.

Tons of challenge coins from all the Military Services are available on eBay.
Most military base clothing stores, PXs, BXs, etc will have that services coins as well.
Got my daughter one when she graduated from Army Basic Training two years ago.

I didn't mean mean to imply your Dad didn't earn one, I just kinda think collection such an item bastardizes the ones that were earned.

BUT, if I were looking to purchase such an item, I think Ebay would be the way to go.

    Thumbs up

The Challenge Coins have become a "Collect Em Trade Em" sort of thing and it's mostly the Military folks (or military family members) that are offering them for sale.
They have been decently collectible for years now.
It's not like our great troops are getting paid so much money that we need to deny them the ability to make a few extra $$$ for themselves if they want to sell their Challenge coins.
There is nothing wrong with collecting Challenge Coins.
They are unique, different, and interesting and for that reason are quite collectible.
Plus the folks that collect them are usually extremely Pro~Military and supportive of our troops and so I say: "Go For It."
