Lodi LEO Shot By Child At Reading Program

SWAT officer shot when child pulls trigger in holster

Read this as a Facebook post. The comments from some were stupid. Why was the gun loaded? Why wasn't the Safety on?
My concern was the Swat members awareness....your thoughts ? I am glad no child was harmed. I feel for this COP, I hope it works out well and is returned to duty, I am sure this is a learning experience for him.

They just want to find answers. They are looking for the child to see if it was an accident or intentional, My guess they want to charge the little guy. Good grief...

Clearly the child who managed to pull the trigger is the offspring of anti-gun parents and he just wanted to help mommy and daddy with their cause!

Taking out a S.W.A.T. officer... so simple even a child can do it.

I know, I know, poor humor selection on my part!

Sounds like poor holster design to me.

Police say because the gun was in a holster to accommodate the attached flashlight, the trigger was more accessible.
Hmm.. "More accessible" - It's either accessible or it isn't.

Maybe Glock can use this in their promotional materials. "So easy to use, a six-year-old can shoot a SWAT officer with his own Glock! Even while it's still in the holster!"

Seriously, there is a good lesson to learn here. Secure your weapon. If a kid can shoot a cop with his own gun by accident, a BG can shoot you with yours on purpose. At the risk of offending the glockophiles, this is especially true if the gun has no safety to speak of.
"Yet this government never of itself furthered any enterprise, but by the alacrity with which it got out of the way... The character inherent in the American people has done all that has been accomplished; and it would have done somewhat more, if the government had not sometimes got in its way."

No... no... Not poor humor. This incident is almost as funny as gun violence at an anti violence rally. Now they want to hunt down the child to see what was his intent? He's 8. He was child curious... I wore a firearm in public for a few years... Children always focus on the gun. They ask questions about the gun, they ask if I ever shot anyone, they ask if it's heavy, they ask how many bullets, They ask if they can touch it, they ask if they can see it. Every cop who ever spent 15 minutes on patrol knows this. When your around kids we need to keep these things in mind.

ntkb mentions holster design. This is another really good point. LOL I for one never though about wearing the thigh holster actually making it accessible to the shorter, less mature versions of ourselves. IMO if there is any culprit in this matter it's the light glock trigger. All the kid did obviously is touch the trigger with enough pressure to set a round off. Poor holster design, light trigger, and a cop not aware of his surroundings. LOL So much for thigh holsters...lol

what model holster? was it the super tactical high speed no drag open competition holster? was the gun fully seated? trigger safeties of any sort are basically useless.
