Who here will be affected by the impending government shutdown?

I understand that veteran retirement apy will not be affected except for a possible delay of a few days. Post 9/11 GI Bill and other educational entitlements are not suppose to be affected. I do not do another contract for a couple of months so that does not affect my real paying job.

How many folks here wwill be affected?
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

I'm not sure how my retirement check or that little piss-ant VA disability check will be affected.

What if they shut down the government and no one noticed? If there is a shut-down, it will likely only be for a day or two. If it goes longer, I don't know how it will affect my military retirement or social security deposits.

I have never seen retirement or disability pay affected, IIRC they come out of other funds. As far as everybody else their intention is to punish us by closing museums, parks and other attractions. Some may furlough parts of their staff but for the congressmen and senators it will have no effect. They will continue to receive the haircuts, meals, coffee and transportation at taxpayer expense.

One of my family is waiting on a CCL. Don't know if the shutdown will halt background checks or not.

Military Retirement pay will probably continue. Government contract pay might be delayed, so that would affect us. However, we've positioned ourselves to live pretty cheaply if we have to, so I'm not worried.

    So what.

All this "Government Shutdown" stuff is really just a scare tactic designed to make us panic and shore up the current Administration by demonizing the opposing Party as the "guilty party". Someone has to be blamed, right?

It has happened before and we are still alive and well. Instead of scaring us with a "shutdown" they should be really working and doing the job they were elected to do. Obviously, that isn't "working" anymore with all these agenda driven people.

Shut the whole thing down. They do so little for us anyway.

I expect no undue hardships as a result of the shutdown. Except perhaps that global warming may get the upper hand without the EPA's daily diligence to protect us from greenhouse gases and carbon pollution.

Jean, I hope so, but CNN ran a story this morning saying that soldiers of the 101st would be getting IOUs. No kidding. AND how they were not happy about it.

They showed at least one Army wife, and one active duty enlisted man, and neither were happy campers, and were speaking out.

Is the military unhappy enough to do something about it? Not saying tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Ave. but voting as a block against incumbents? Combined with those of us who are no longer active duty it would seem like a very significant demographic.

I'm a victim of our government, not a beneficiary.

I will be greatly affected, in that I will get a great sense of satisfaction in knowing that the federal government is shut down for a little while.

Do feel bad for those that aren't part of the problem that will have their paycheck affected though...
