Angry If your side doesn't win...just change the description of the office

More infuriating news from The People's Republic of Maryland.

From the article: "Republican was elected mayor of Annapolis, City Council members say they will revisit legislation that would strip the mayor’s office of much of its power.

Democratic Alderman Ross Arnett of Ward 8 tells The Capital he will introduce a charter amendment to move Annapolis to a council-manager style of government. The city manager would report directly to the City Council, not the mayor."

Wow. Council members should remember that they are elected too. This is on the citizens to remind them of that.

My Hometown went through that City Council & City Manager form of Government for awhile but then they went back to having a Mayor. I guess the Council just couldn't get much done without a Mayor at the helm.

My State and other places within are heavily Democrat and they outnumber Republicans 2 to1 in almost everything. Even with that, they still tried the Mayor-less government for awhile.

Maybe this town will find out what my town went through maybe doesn't work.

That is the way the system works for their city. If the voters don't like it, they can vote in people that will represent their interests.

Bingo. Somebody has to have authority to make a decision. Decision by committee assures that nothing ever gets done.

But just like the President, a mayor's power is somewhat limited, the real power is in the City Council. If you don't like what they are doing, get rid of them. Worked in Colorado.

Well, that would depend; there are several forms of local government, and the power is distributed differently among each form. But I do see your point and it stands as is.

Annapolis- I spent a few years there. Beautiful city, tons of history... I love the town. But waaaay to liberal for my tastes.

    Welcome to the new Amerika.

Sure doesn't seem to fit "Govt of the people, by the people, for the people." Sounds more like "People of the govt, by the govt, for the govt."

The small city closest to where we live has a city manager and a mayor. Not living there I'm not totally familiar with all the details of the power structure or the goings on (except the time they tried to pass a law prohibiting guns on all city property: A bunch of us got very involved with that one!), but they seem to function with both "heads of state".
Getting old was not on my list of "things to do" in the Golden Years!

When we let politicians pick and chose who would be saddled with healthlaw ,precedent was set for base manipulation of our laws....gain power and you can pick and chose what laws you will obey......why they are not all in jail I do not understand.
The easy way is always mined.
