Rule: If its eyes are closed, its:

    A. Sleeping
    B. Wounded but alive.
    C. And if you just shot it, it aint sleeping, and it aint happy with you.

To the OP, Niks, those rules I posted might sound funny, but they are real. If the eyes are closed, it aint dead. Treat it accordingly.

Back in the '70s a guy I took hunting (first timer) dropped a young buck with his brand new Win 270. He was so pleased with himself. He propped the head up, laid his rifle in the rack, and stepped back to take a photo. As soon as the camera clicked, the buck jumped up and took off--with the 270 dangling in its rack. We never found the deer or the rifle, but he had the photo to back his story up. All I could think was his bullet grazed the deer's noggin and knocked him out as there was hardly any blood or hair.

Wife just hit a deer the other day with her SUV.... $5500.00 damage... the next day, the deer was on the other side of the road, dead.

I've hauled them off the road before, myself, and had them jump up and run a ways before falling over dead.

    They don't die easy.
