    Drone alert joke

Did you hear that Amazon is going to deliver merchandise using drones?
I don't want to be on the airplane and hear the pilot come on the loud speaker saying, "Ladies and Gentlemen, there will be a slight delay in takeoff. We're waiting for a toaster to clear the airspace."

It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

It appears UPS is looking into drone delivery as well.

I think “60 Minutes” said it would only be a 20-30 mile radius around the distribution center. I hope they do not use Google maps for destination, if I put in my address it shows it as a field ¾ mile from my actual address.

My question is how do they avoid power lines, heavily wooded lots, and such.

And I think it will only take one of these drones falling out of the sky and hitting some unsuspecting pedestrian and causing a car accident to put an end to this delivery mode.

That's probably what they said when they started using planes to deliver the mail.

Navigating would not be a big problem. Routes would be preplanned so no suprises. I woould also assume that only certain locations would be approved after someone validated it was a safe site.

I don't really have much of an issue with the technology. I just don't see how you will not have some idiot trying to shoot them own thinking they are government drones.

Or....assuming they have preplanned "corridors" to fly in, I would imagine folks trying to mess with them in other ways since they will see them frequently. They most likely will be limited in alittude due to airspace around the areas to begin with.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

I thought there was a federal law prohibiting domestic drone use for commercial purposes?

As a full time FAA employee I see lots of issues with this. Probably not going to happen in the next 5 to 10 years.

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I heard some of the pizza places are thinking of drone delivery. The old saying, "Call 9-1-1 and then Pizza Hut and see which one shows up first." takes on a whole new meaning.

Better get used to checking your field every couple days!
