I would not shoot or even draw a gun in this case. The cops might mistake you for one of the BG. I dont think the cops would appreciate any one getting involved at this point . In a mall you might also hit a bystander.

I happen to dissagree. I think that if i had the ability to nutralize a threat that has the ability to take the life of another person and is in the act of doing so, I would do it and not think twice about it. And im sure a jury of my peers would feel the same. I would risk getting shot by the police in order to keep one of them or another innocent person alive.
Just my opinion.

Miggy, good to hear. I'm kind of surprised as an event like this is a pro-carry state like Florida would seem to make good press. When properly twisted of course.
Some serious kudos to the police, sounds like they did a very good job in a tough situation.

Gelicious. Do you have a wife, kids? They are numero uno in this spot. There are already police in the game. You pull a gun in this situation you are going to just make a bigger mess. The LEO's don't know who you are but will assume you're another bad guy until the dust settles. This will also mean pulling LEO's off the bad guy to deal with you! The LEO's are trained for this, have good communications and know each other as the good guys. Everyone else is suspect. How do you know in the middle of all this confusion you might not be shooting an undercover LEO?
A mess like this is rarely cut and dried because you will probably be exposed to it in the middle somewhere and won't know who all the players are. He may have others behind you in the crowd who might just shoot at you and your family for shooting at him! Can you be sure of a clean shooting lane at a moving target in a crowd, what's behind those sheet rock walls if you miss? There's reasons those LEO's were not blazing away at this guy. Do some research on the pitfalls of intervention. I'm not saying I'd never get in the middle of something but I'm taking care of my wife first, then others. Don't make your wife a widow and kids fatherless if the police are already on scene.

Very well put!... I will admit when I am wrong and yes in that situation I would have done the wrong thing. It is easy to sit here in my warm protected home and type what I would do but when it comes down to it and im faced with that situation i know I would use better logic. I just get to thinking someone with a gun shooting at police and hear a crowd of people needs to be taken care of fast. Perhaps not all cases can be that simple.
We can use the "what if" all day but for as many varibles you gave me that can go wrong, there are just as many for the other guy, what if he started shooting the crowd, or even still got an accurate shot on a cop and killed him. Its just something thats hard to accept you know what I mean?
