Student in NY Punished for Not Turning NRA shirt inside out

Grand Island High School student Shane Kinney, 16, is an avid outdoorsman and, along with his parents, a member of the National Rifle Association. He recently received a one-day in-school suspension after a school official deemed his shirt a threat to the educational process because it was emblazoned with logos for the firearm advocacy group and two hunting rifles.
Kinney’s situation looks like yet another example of how the Nation’s public education system is being put to work to indoctrinate students against 2nd Amendment rights.

I liked the one Facebook comment shown on there: "He needs to wear each day a t-shirt with a different Amendment on it! Along with the Bill of Rights!"

I wouldn't be surprised if kids across the nation did that and a large portion only got in trouble for the 2A.

He refused to "obey" and chose the one day of in-school suspension.

That takes some guts for a young kid to stand up for what he believes.

It's easy to give it lip service.

In my opinion, this kid "passed the test".

Agreed, Patti. A smile crossed my face when I read that he refused to turn it inside out. I wouldn't have either. One day ISS? At my high school, ISS was pretty much one long study hall. You sat in the same room all day in silence except for lunch. You didn't go to your classes, you just stayed in that room and were given all the class work to do. I actually liked it because I got a lot more done.

Your probably correct, there probably wouldn't be anything said about any of the other amendments.

    This reminds me of my college graduation where some guy sang a Muslim prayer. It was pretty and everyone applaud. Shortly after boos came along because the organizers did not include an English prayer. Some were outraged and quick to point out what a discriminatory populace we were. My point here is that schools are stupid and we are here to outsmart them. Plaster more logos on that shirt;
    - NRA
    - Pro-choice
    - Pro-religion
    - Pro-homosexuality

oh man, you start putting slogans from opposing camps and you may see heads explode.... from both sides of the battle lines. I'm with you. Lets take a dump all over this "us vs. them" system we have manuevered ourselves into.

Just the other day in wal-mart(of course) the wife and i saw an obviously lesbian couple, and the "butch" had a Kahr or similar and she was OC'ing. i gave her a nod, glanced at the gun, and gave her a thumbs up. she smiled. i don't blame her a bit. some homophobes wanna gay bash, i hope she shoots em.

Live and let live. don't tread on me. i'm fine where i am and you don't need to worry about what i am doing. be on your way, be merry. i won't interfere if you don't. how hard is that?

I wonder if the shirt didn't have the crossed rifles what lame excuse they would find to require him to remove it..

I'm a proponent of freedom of choice. This is my main argument for any anti who dares to argue. And why not? It kills me to hear people talk that California is such a great land of freedom and happiness. Well, I think they are not accepting at all. Also, guns and personal security make me happy.

Agenda-driven sites will spin anything to get you to click and post it elsewhere.

The school had a policy against shirts with ANY advertising or advocating ANY group of any kind, or with disallowed symbols on it. The kid wore a shirt ADVOCATING the NRA that displayed a gun. They told him to turn it inside out, per the school's policy, which was available to all parents.

Do you see the media manipulation? The kid did NOT wear a shirt advocating the 2nd Amendment only, the school NEVER said that the NRA or 2A was a threat to the educational process, and they didn't select him for punishment because of their own agenda. The website the OP used as a source manipulated the facts and created sensationalized content to get everyone excited and to make money. TO MAKE MONEY. There was a kid the same day who was similarly punished for wearing a Planned Parenthood shirt. Did you hear about it on the same website that the OP used as a source? OF COURSE NOT.

The best thing any of us can do is avoid such agenda-driven, fact-hating websites like the one in the OP's post. If you're going to visit such trash sites, at least be able to separate manipulation for profit from fact and arrive at a reasoned conclusion about what you are reading. The site took what was nothing and spun it to fit their agenda. That's all. You can get the same trash reporting on the "MSM" sources as well. Fox is notorious for it.

The family needs to contact the Rutherford Institute. They are a group of constitutional attorneys and general attorneys. A few years ago they filed a successful suit against a local area school system that did the same thing to a student. They don' mind taking on brainless school administrations.
