    Facebook launches friend-tracking feature

Facebook launches friend-tracking feature. I use FB to keep track of close friends and family. But this is just plain stupid. At least it is not turned on by default. But sooner or later folks are going to mess with their FB privacy settings and allow themselves to be tracked real time.

That's nuts. It seems innocuous on the surface, I know, but do people just not realize the implications of something like this?
Holy crap on a cracker folks, why don't we just make it easy for them?

Don't install the FB app on your phone .. problem solved.
But don't let that lure you into a false sense of security.
Your phone is, after all, a sophisticated computer with
    built-in GPS, internet, and radio-location...
    Really concerned?
    Leave it home.

I've always thought FB was stupid to begin with. This does not serve to improve my impression.

I agree 100 percent. I'm 38 years old and have never, and I do mean never, had a Facebook or Myspace, or any other such, account. I understand that for some folks they are useful, especially for folks with alot of family and friends spread out all over the US and other countries. But pretty much all my family lives within visiting face-to-face distance. Those who aren't that close I keep in touch via telephone and email, no problem.
I just think the social media thing has gotten out of hand. Hell, cell phones have gotten out of hand IMO too.
I guess I'm just turning into an old fogey already, say Bahhhhh!!! to everything now, lol.

I don't have Facebook, so I'm not worried. However, this is weird.

Ridiculous unless, as Rob says, you're a stalker.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

    Exactly.

And when a predator uses this feature to locate and track his/her prey, then brutally kills them, I hope the victim's family sues, wins, then OWNS Facebook and takes it offline.

Sure, like someone said you could just not activate this feature, but do we really trust the youth of America to be that smart?

Totally disagree with sueing. Most of the time the parents are paying for the smart phones for the kids. Enable them to be able to use FB on computers they buy for the kids. So with the kids, the parents are responsible. Not a product that can be used for good or bad (sounds like guns, do you want folks suing gun manufacturers becauee someone uses a legal piece of equipment for something bad?).

As far as adults...they can assume thier own responsibilities

They are not the first to do this, and there are apps, I believe in both IOS and android for tracking. A lot of parents use these apps to keep track of their kids, and possibly older family members. It does have it's uses.

I have never used FB but my wife and kids do. It does bother me that someone could track them and we'd never know. With all the crazies out there nothing is out of the question. I'll have to talk to them all and make sure they understand what could occur.
