Very interesting video. If these women were armed and trained perhaps their mind set would be altered and their confidence restored.

Interesting video. I wonder how they could make themselves less vulnerable when out alone at night?

I bet they would never guess.

It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

How can they make themselves less vulnerable when out alone at night?

Nothing will make them less vulnerable at night or at any other time. No Thing. nothing.

Having a gun will not make them less vulnerable.
Being trained in self defense with or without a gun will not make them less vulnerable.
Being big and ugly might make them less vulnerable than someone petite and pretty.

Nothing is going to stop a sociopath. And, some people who are otherwise, normally, and in everyday life; responsible, fair, and kindly, are one drink, one dark alley, one opportunity away from crossing over into sociopathic behavior.

Our only advantage is that we are willing to arm ourselves to stop such an attack... the attack would occur whether we were armed or not. But we have a means to stop it. And, if we're trained, and/or lucky, we will come away mostly unscathed. Mostly.

That we know that it can happen anytime or anywhere, makes us no different from the ladies in the video. One carries a pocket knife? One carries her keys in her fist (like Wolverine? REALLY, sigh). We carry a gun.

We avoid sketchy places at night. We preach avoidance. We preach run/leave if you can.

The only way they can make themselves less vulnerable at night is to avoid going out at night, or to go out in groups.

There are many ways that they can prevail in an attack, only two of them involve a gun (the attacker's or your own).

Unless you're a man that has lived in a bubble all of your life, men experience similar fears at night (or day) just far less often and in far fewer situations. Men inhabit the same world as women where bad things happen. Then add the fact that men are stereotyped as being the sex that has to stay and fight, defend the physically weak or die trying; men also experience similar fears at night when with their female companions. Younger men also tend to engage in situations that could become more dangerous. Nevertheless, women experience the fear much more often than men and therefore, the fear would affect women more profoundly than men. But I would argue that the environment in which you live is a far more significant indicator of the levels of fear that both men and women (and children, the elderly, the weak, etc for that matter) experience. If you live in the poorer or tough inner city neighborhood you are going to experience a far greater level of fear than if you live in affluent suburbs or expensive apartments. The effect is shared across all the resident groups of people regardless of sex. Living in a poorer area means more fearful living conditions. This is why disarming poorer, less educated citizens affects them far more than disarming other groups. By extension, less educated, poorer women live the life of greatest fear. The *only* solution is to empower women through self defense training and arms.

All they have to fear is Fear itself.

"All they have to fear is Fear itself." Yet another one of those silly propaganda sound bites that FDR coined. If his hyperbole were true then simply removing fear from your mind would make the world a utopian pacifist dream come true - really? What baloney. Meanwhile back in the real world, the only way to diminish an individual's fear is to arm oneself (or others or society) with the tools needed to negate the ever present physical dangers found in human society. Oh and how many millions died during WWII? So much for only needing to fear fear itself. Tell that to the millions long dead. Again, WWII was won because the good guys (the allies) got themselves armed to the teeth and outgunned the Nazis and Axis powers. It was a job that had little to do with replacing fear with Pollyanna flower power and more to do with the hard work of producing arms and using them for a very just effect. To use WWII as an analogy, women need to get trained and arm themselves so that they can carry on their own night time missions.

And none of those patriotic boys who were armed to the teeth had any fear, right?

Marshall discovered in 1947 that less than 25% of front line infantry shot at enemies that were engaging them directly. And that only 2% shot to "stop the threat."
