    Keep your machine gun untied

    http://www.jpfo.org/shoestring.jpg

The link is to a copy of a response by the ATF (were I more technologically inclined, I could have posted the document). Apparently a 14 inch shoestring is now a machine gun.

Methinks some problems over terminology and phraseology!!!!

The shoestring ''enabled'' fully automatic fire (so it is said) - but it is not itself and never can be - a machine gun!

Don't know what to say. So if I have a semiautomatic rifle and a piece of string on my person do I have a "combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machine gun"?

Watch some prosecutor give that one a try in a big, liberal city.

Maybe the FBI and BATFE started hiring reporters from the AP.

According to the language of the law, if you have in your posession the parts necessary to convert a semiauto rifle into a full auto, you have a "machine gun" regardless of the presence or absence of the rifle itself.

They've also tried to lable the "crank" type hookup, and the electronic trigger "bumping" system as a Machinegun. Seems if you attatch a chain of some type to a multi bbl gatling style rifle, you'll have made a machinegun as well....weird laws and grey area loopholes for sure..

    Dang it !

and here I was considering building a 6 barrelled Gatling gun with a starter for the trigger mechanism.

    So much for that idea...

my buddy has that "second trigger" adapter on his AR where both squeezing the trigger and then pushing the adapter, which activates the trigger again, doubles the speed which a semi-automatic can normally be fired. does that count as a machine gun? i wouldn't think so... but laws...

Yeah, I guess I'll stick to the old "hand crank" job.

I've dealt with some ATF guys. They aint got no sense of humor...

    Thanks Lowflyer,
Just in case anyone was wondering where this came from, I am not Mr. Blakely. I wonder what type of rifle he did this with anyway?
