Could be Memphis TN. Road construction projects here take years where the same project in Alabama would have taken a year or less.

Example: The Alabama Dept. Of Transportation took one year to change the route of a state road, build a complete interchange between that road and I-10 and extend said road 5 miles.

So far, the Tenn. Dept. Of Transportation has taken almost 2 years just to widen a road here in Shebly County and replace an old bridge. The projected complete time is still 3 years away!

And as for building completely new roads, the I-385 bypass around Memphis is only 1/2 done and has been under construction for many years. It isn't scheduled to be completed until 2012!

Slow as molasses in January, that's our TDOT.

    Clever...

Typical road construction...paid for with gov't $...the only thing missing were the 23 supervisors for this project...

Say what you will with michigan construction and roads, but you must admit they are fast. The problem is that they seem to do just about every road, every single year and they all end up with potholes every single year.

Since it looks like it could be London, I'm guessing the supervisors stepped out for tea 10 hrs ago.

Knowing that Chris resides in Pennsylvania, and knowing how construction goes in the Commonwealth, my guess is that no matter what city it may look like......... It's Pennsylvania!

Hey, where's the 5 guys leaning on their shovels watching the guy in the hole?

I understand your heavy transportation construction woes, but as a member of that profession, I offer another view. Winter and Construction seasons, annual potholes filling and 3R projects, and endless completion dates spell one thing... JOB SECURITY!

Here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the PennDOT is backed into a corner, facing limited budgets. For instance, the company I work for has multiple bridge rehab projects for PennDOT. Our bridge guys will submit cost proposals only to be told to cut corners to get costs down. Let's just say the highest politicians are robbing from the poor and expecting more from it. And I haven't even touched base on PA's "New Business/Company" friendliness.

But to jest, there are plenty of good PennDOT jokes... What is yellow and sleeps six? A PennDOT truck. The other one I like is about leaning on the shovels. There is a story that PennDOT gave road crew members shirts with upside down pockets to make it even easier to lean on their shovels... just slip the end of the handle into the pocket and lean. The truth behind this myth is that PennDOT contracts with a blind-handicap work placement agency that makes the yellow-green construction shirts. Shirts with the upside down pockets were released accidentally. It's still good for a chuckle though.

Chris, I still think you should rally the masses in P'ville to press for timing and phase improvements to the SR 56/96 intersection. Heck, the municipality could hire me to do the work! On second though, I have enough work as it is.

Samuel - AFAIK we face plenty of disruption along 56 anyways very soon! School area, Fishertown - etc.

What really puzzles me and - I forgot to ask you - was all the ''concrete patching'' along 99 last year and year before. I kept asking myself two questions....

How the %$#@ much is this costing ......... and why patch this bit and not that? I have yet to find out but am more than curious ..... perhaps next time we touch base you can tell me.

The same deal is I believe soon to start from 56/99 region right thru to the Sprule exit!

I always thought that "Pennsylvania" was the Lenape (Delaware) Indian word for "constantly under construction".
