Police Arrest 7 year old on dirt bike........

BALTIMORE (AP) - Police arrested a 7-year-old boy, handcuffed him and hauled him down to the station house on a charge of riding a motorized dirt bike on a sidewalk.

Then, according to his mother, Gerard Mungo Jr. was handcuffed to a bench and interrogated before being released to his parents......

.... Police arrested Gerard and confiscated the bike.

Dinkins said officers fingerprinted him and took his mug shot.....

.... The Police Department's zero-tolerance arrest policy—begun under former Mayor Martin O'Malley, who is now Maryland's governor—has drawn complaints that such arrests occur most often in poor, black neighborhoods. Gerard is black.......

I couldn't agree more. These ankle bitters have to learn, and the sooner the better.

My personal opinion: Zero tolerance equals zero intelligence (OK, I read it somewhere and liked it).

Zero tolerance leaves no room to make intelligent decisions and exceptions for things like 7 year olds and other situations that don't warrant being handcuffed and transported "downtown".

Aargh! Don't you hate it when people in power try to take the ability to make decisions away from intelligent people who should be making decisions on a case by case basis?

Exactly right.....on the positive side, however, we have a new citizen with a bad taste in his mouth for "over-zealous" government, and that can't be all bad...

And, congrats on your 2000th post CopperKnight!...

From the title I thought they were going to be taking it much tougher on repeat offenders , violent criminals, and/or sex offenders.
    BUT NO

Hopefully this was or will be an "isolated incident".

That will teach that little hooligan! Nothing better to do I guess, I feel sorry for the cops that have to put up with this crap.

Do they make handcuffs that small?

Are they going try him as an adult or just send him strait to the Supermax in Indiana?

It does sound a little goofy, but we dont know the whole story behind this. This may be an ongoing problem, who knows.
