Also, he sued the school district and they reached a settlement and he was even given a chance to get his job back.
I think the highlighted parts are a major difference here, the case in Florida, his conviction is a Direct correlation to his job, Not that I think thieves should be teachers, but this guy is still under probation, and violating it. He is essentially breaking the law by holding the position he is in.

But then never underestimate the courts ability to protect the criminals, and punish the rest of us at the same time.

Get the government out of education and let the free market decide.

    1. Parents don't want their children around felons - they will look for some assurance that the school they are considering does background checks on all applicants. If it doesn't, they can choose a different school.

    2. A school that is run as a business will make damn sure no one is going to embezzle - they will do background checks on their prospective finance department employees (and of course the teachers, custodians, etc.).

    3. A school that is run as a business will do everything in their power to make sure your kids come out of that school ready for life. The best advertising is the recommendation of a past parent or student.

Letting the government run the schools involves many political considerations in administration decisions that often come at the expense of the student's safety and education.

I think people spend too much time complaining about the natural, inevitable results of govt. education while not attacking the root issue: Should the government have total control of your children's thoughts, actions and attitudes? They do.
