    See Any Good Movies Recently?

    A totally off-topic thread.....

....have you seen any decent movies recently? If so, which and why?

I ask 'cause my family went to see the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" yesterday....I waited outside, shopped, and read a "Guns" magazine.

But! I picked up the three DVD set of the set of the Hong Kong-made police drama "Internal Affairs." I saw the first one, which the ho-hum Oscar winner, "The Departed" was based on. Actually "The Departed" was more like a diluted and regurgitated version of the original, which was extremely well acted and written. If you saw "The Departed" as I did, you know what happens to the undercover.

Watched 'Babel' last night, not for everyone but I do like subtitled movies more than the regular kind.

    Cool

I'm off work on Fridays, and go to the theater practically every week. It's been a pretty bleak last couple of months...300 is a very good movie, and I saw Shooter yesterday...it's an okay movie made from an excellent book with some great sniper/firearms action, but too much "Hollywood politics"...

Not much for theaters, but some great movies out on DVD.
"The Depated" was great. Excellent cast and a stunning ending.
I just watched "A Scanner Darkly" last night. It was interesting. Not for everyone but not a waste of time (for me, at least). Definitely not one for the kids- well it does have 101 reasons not to do drugs.

Borat was funny, but a little on the crude side.

I saw "Papillon" for the first time. I usually don't go for older movies, but this one was really good. It is about a guy that tries to escape from a prison camp in French Guiana.

Casino Royale was excellent ! Made James bond seem real....
If you like the "Rocky" movies, you'll like "Rocky Balboa"....its bittersweet. A Good horror flick is "The Descent".
I'll be watching "Babel" this evening.....

I saw "Casino Royale" last week too....I thought Craig makes a pretty good Bond. I also liked it was less about gadgets and more about butt kicking.

Household Six is down with might in fact be dengue fever, so I've been stuck in the house all weekend. Watched Legends of the Fall and Walk the Line for the first time - both very good.

Saw Casino Royale when it hit theatres down here, and loved it. Reestablished my faith in the franchise. If they keep up that level of film, Bond will live another 40 years...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

I saw 300 and it was the best movie I've seen since I can recall going to the movies. Of course, I like the gladiator, swords and gore type stuff. Definitely a great movie. I left wanting to sleep in the woods and kill things with my bare hands.

I want to go see shooter but am going to wait for the DVD.

Haven't seen much good lately. I agree, though... The Descent was really good and I'm lookin' forward to "Children of Man" comin' out on DVD on Tuesday. 'Course... I'm into those pseudo post-apocolyptic movies. Most of the crappy wanna-be horror movies lately haven't done much for me, either. Seems like today its all about which movie can gross you out more, nothing truely scary. Last good truely "scary" horror flick I saw woulda been Hills Have Eyes unrated on DVD. Beyond that - Event Horizon gave my shorts a run for their money....

Watched Ronin last night with a few friends who hadn't seen it before... not new but still amazing. The ending totally blew their minds. I maintain that De Niro is THE MAN.

Rented Casino Royale and Flyboys friday night. I thought they were both pretty good. I'd watch them again.
