I may compete in a local one coming up in June. Just wondering if there were any other guys (or gals) on the board that have competed in such events. I also have a Highland Games event coming up in June as well.

Never in a strongman, but have tooled around with doing a couple powerlifting meets. Somewhat the same, sorta kinda. :P
Let us know how it goes!

I'll make a complete fool of my self. :D But, it'll be fun. I've got another year (probably) of serious lifting and practice before I'll be able to comfortably compete. I've never even seen a strongman competition in person. Only on TV and YouTube. :)

A friend of mine has competed in the World's Strongest Man competition and has been highland games masters' champion as well. I enjoy power lifting but have never competed, and the strongman stuff is another level altogether. The highland games events are a hoot! I've tried them, but not in a real competition. The caber toss can get really exciting in a hurry. Which highland games are you going to? The one in Arlington, Texas, first weekend in June?

I've contemplated the idea myself. I'm not a large fellow by any standards(6'1 220lbs), but I do lift regularly and enjoy it for the most part. My problem is my back being my weak point. I need do be doing more deadlift work, but it's such a pain. It's one of those groups I have to be in the mood to work. I started toying with the idea after seeing them do log lifts on the TV and realized...Hey wait a minute...I do that every fall to get ready for winter (carry a tree trunk on your shoulder up a hill to the backyard after felling it is quite a workout)! I saw the Highland games in PA once a few years back too. That was a hoot to watch.
But alas! I'm just not there yet. Maybe a couple more years.

Well, I've pulled a few train locomotives up a few hills and jogged around the block several times carrying a 700 pound granite tombstone with me but, I've never competed.![]()
Truthfully, my lower back starts to violently spasm just watching those guys on TV.
I like watching them compete.
I prefer to stay with 12oz curls. The injuries can be horrific though.

my biceps are like 12 inches around.. do they have an ultra lightweight division I can compete in? lol
Nope. Always enjoyed watching them try to throw kegs through second story windows.... oh wait... that's a frat here on campus.

I can pick up more toys than my 2 year old daughter, and get a better time.
That's the dance I do after I beat her in our competition.

Here is my cousin's website that I think you will find some good info on strength training.

I showed up to one once, they kicked me out. They said something about me cheating by using superpowers and stuff. I think they were just jealous.
