Oops, one less Enzo on the Planet

    http://www.dispatch.com/dispatch/con...6/griffin.html

IRWINDALE, Calif.—Eddie Griffin crashed a rare Ferrari Enzo worth $1.5 million into a concrete barrier while practicing at a racetrack yesterday, destroying the car but escaping uninjured.

The comedian was practicing for a charity race to promote his upcoming film, Redline, when he drove too fast around a curve at the Irwindale Speedway. Video footage showed the red sports car screeching before it ricocheted off the barrier with heavy damage to its front.

"Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can't drive," Griffin, referring to one his past films, said after the accident.

The film's publicist, Wendy Zocks, said Griffin was "doing OK."

"He walked away completely unscratched, but probably a little shaken," Zocks said.

The Enzo, valued at around $1.5 million, was owned by the executive producer of Redline, Daniel Sadek, whose exotic car collection is featured in the movie.

Sadek said that the car was damaged beyond repair and that he had "mixed feelings" about the wreck.

"I'm glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed," Sadek said. "I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there's people dying every day. A lot of worse things are happening in the world."

Only 400 Ferrari Enzos were ever produced, all between 2002 and 2004.

Griffin's credits include the comedies Undercover Brother; Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and its sequel; Date Movie; and Norbit.
If there is video of this, it should show up online sometime. Man, and I feel bad when I have to spend $200 on a new bumper. Moral of the story, don't let your friends drive you $1.5 million dream car.

I do not feel sorry for some one who can afford a $1.5 million car.

If I had $1.5 million I would buy a nice peice of acreage and many guns.

I already have a list of guns.

Of course my wife would make me pay off our house with it and our other debts, but we would still have about $850,000 left to play with.

If I were that Sadek guy and had enough money for that kind of a car, I would just pay to fix up a junker to LOOK like the Enzo and then let him drive it... if he crashed it, well, no hard feelings.. it was a fake.. It would be the equivalent of someone smashing your fake Rolex.. you can cope.

Vrooom... Vrooom.... ERRRRRR... CRASH..... AW SNAP!

Make a funny joke and everything is ok. How about cutting a check for 1.5. Although i'm sure it was insured for 5 times that.

    The horror!

(PS: The pic of the wrecked Ferrari was from another accident but used to demosntrate the pain)

Yup, thats the video, thanks SIXTO and 0.02.

SIXTO, my older brother does Autocross in Cincy, and the other week they had a new Corvette hop the flood wall at the Ford plant in Sharonville and cause some pretty bad damage to the car. I saw that happen, that one brings about a similar chuckle in its own sense.

There is speculation on the mighty webnets that it was all a hoax and a publicity stunt.

I did some SCCA stuff a while back with Neons. That was painful enough with a sub 10k car, I couldnt imagine a vette or more.
I was kinda thinking about going at it again with a Miata, but thats a lot of money tied up to race Barbie's car. I guess I'll stick to the dirt bikes.

I'm pretty sure hes in SCCA and one other group. Miata's are really big in it. I just go to help turn wrenches if anything breaks and offer support or whatever, not my kind of vehicles or driving.

Subarus do extremely well in it too.

Dirt bikes are a lot cheaper.
