LAPD to Get Smaller Flashlights in Response to Beating
Police will soon be outfitted with a cutting edge flashlight that is not only brighter than others, but too small to be used as a weapon.

Guys, Guys.... you are way behind the times... You dinasours!
About a couple of weeks ago I was covering for another sick officer his midnight-to-damn-sun-came-up at the hotel. I am patrolling the restricted parking lot and I see in a remote, poorly lit area five males and three vehicles parked haphazardly. I approach carefully with one hand on my mike and the other on my flashlight, stop 20 yards away and illuminate them. They turned out to be 4 new employees and an old one that were way past they quitting time "chillin" in the parking lot which goes against company regulations. I told them so and send them on their way. I didn't even make a notation about the encounter
Next day i get called to the Boss' office and get my arse chewed. It seems that the employees lodged a complain because they felt threatened. I was floored: Five young males feeling threatened my a middleaged, overwheigt Security Officer? The Boss complained that it was the flashlight that made them feel like that and I was reminded that I am not a police officer and shouldn't be usung the light on people.
I shut up and let it go. There was no point in discussing the tactical point of view to somebody who has no idea about that but plays corporate policy games.

LEO's will still be able to do their job with better lighting and their nightstick.

There is a large discussion on this flashlight on another board I frequent. Apparently they needed a plastic flashlight that was an LED. This flashlight does look like it has alot of potential. Still its ridiculous that they are taking away big lights so people don't get beat but they still have tazers and guns. :D

Boy, am I excited about this flashlight. Looks to be around 170 lumens by a report I saw. Quite big but very very cool. Due out in June and MSRP will be around $200. The Pelican 7060 will deffinately find its way into my flashlight collection. :D

I Do Not Understand Why...
anyone would want to be a cop in today's society of PC and BS...
Everything is someone else's fault...
'Cops just pick on people' attitude is everywhere...
Many people would just as soon spit on the uniform, but want to call you when they need help...
You're damned if you do something and damned if you don't...there does not seem to be any winning...
Appears to be a thankless job...OH, I forgot, it for the big bucks...yeah, that's it...
My hats off to you cops...not an easy position to be in...

Come on guys. Don't you see the wisdom here?
First make them use little teeny tiny flashlights and them make them use Airsoft pistols.
Finally, set up rules that when a bad guy pulls a gun, make the officers form a committee to discuss the BG's motivations and possible sad childhood and then ascertain from the bad guy whether the bad guy is really going to shoot or is just posturing.
Then we will have a politically correct police force.
I wonder how much discussion the powers that be had with the front line cops to get their opinion?
Probably none!
