YCMTSU: Belgium to impose tax on barbequing

Belgium to impose tax on barbequing to fight global warming.
BRUSSELS, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - The government of Belgium's French-speaking region of Wallonia, which has a population of about 4 million, has approved a tax on barbequing, local media reported.

Experts said that between 50 and 100 grams of CO2, a so-called greenhouse gas, is emitted during barbequing. Beginning June 2007, residents of Wallonia will have to pay 20 euros for a grilling session.

The local authorities plan to monitor compliance with the new tax legislation from helicopters, whose thermal sensors will detect burning grills.

Scientists believe CO2 emissions are a major cause of global warming.

I wonder how much CO2 those helicopters will release? lol This lacks so much sense, common or otherwise, that it just has to be funny. Unfortunately, this seems to be the way all Western countries are going. Control through regulation and no one is getting all that upset.

"Scientists believe CO2 emissions are a major cause of global warming."

I personnally have never heard of carbon dioxide (CO2) being a cause of greenhouse gases.

CO2 is just the latest environmentalism fad...........look at some of the ones in the past couple of decades. Anybody remember:

Global Cooling- just twenty years ago we were at the beginning of new 'ice age'.......didn't happen!

Acid Rain- I wonder what ever happened to that? When was the last time you heard a story on that?

Spotted Owl- they must all be extinct, haven't heard anything about them in five years or so.......

Ozone Hole- another one that I haven't heard about in years, but it was going to kill us all with UV radiation. When was the last time you heard ANYTHING about it?

Carbon Monoxide (CO)- This was the ONE everybody thought was going to kill use. This is the product of combustion. Again, when was the last time you heard anything?

This new religion of Global Warming' is just that....a RELIGION. It's not science when you have 'consensus'..it's opinion.

Why not go after the big corp? after all they are the biggest contributors. Way more than individuals cooking out.

Burning wood or charcoal is not increasing the net carbon in the atmosphere anyway. It is only releasing the the carbon absorbed by the tree while it was growing and even then it is not releasing all of it. So there is not more carbon after the wood is burned than before.

The Helo is using carbon that has been trapped for millions of years and is increasing the net carbon in the atmosphere. I know you can not use logic with a goverment especially a french speaking goverment.

    Flemish.

Belgians typically speak Flemish, French, English and possibly German.

Although the capital Brussels is in the French dominated south I am sure that they have to speak Flemish.

EDIT, having read the original article again I concede that the local government in the Wallonia district are in fact French speaking.

I was going to insist this had to be an April Fools joke of an article, but it appears it was posted March 4th.

Makes a lot of sense to use a helicopter because nothing else causes a hot spot in a thermal imager in a populated area... y'know, like a clothes dryer venting or a hot, parked car or a house air conditioner and people don't use their BBQ under a porch roof or anything like that.
