We could be in for a rough ride - for many reasons regarding gas prices.
I'll bet we see $3 plus again

How come Libs love to bash Big Oil but are silent regarding Chavez? He is the De Facto owner of the fourth largest oil company that supplies oil to the USA.

Methinks their oil reserves might dwindle precipitously without the foreign expertise, technology and capital. They never really developed their own intellectual and engineering capabilities as have some oil rich nations.

Venezuela does have very good oil experts..... unfortunately the experts were not with "The Process" (AKA The Revolution) so they were canned. PDVSA (Venezuela's Oil Company) is now being run by political faithful (but dumb as bricks) Managers, engineers and technicians. There are reports that accidents in the fields (explosions, pipes bursting, valves malfunctionin, etc) have rised some 100% due to poor or no maintenance.
The recent Bush-Lula (Brazil's President) Ethanol deal had Chavez evacuating a fire-hardened clay-based rectangular-shaped solid object. If alternative fuels are used, the price of oil will drop dramatically and Chavez will not be able to export his revolutions.

You're right - I misstated - but should we use the past tense?
I don't know that many of their fields ever really recovered from the shut-downs several years back?

The fields really never shut down. The strikers were smart/dumb enough to realize the damage it may cause so there was a skeleton crew present. I know that some institute (Petroleum Institute?) published an article saying that Venezuela's production was down somewhere on the range of 20% due to the new politically/secure management. The Venezuelan Government was quick issuin a denial but we are talking about the same people that deny that yellow fever is back in full force in all major city hubs (it was controlled in the mid 60's) and that Bush is trying to murder Chavez every 6 months.

I'll see that bet and raise you....... It's over $2.75 down here NOW! I'll bet we see $3 plus by June! The sad part is the oil companies will cry about how they are FORCED to charge the high prices, and then end up posting record profits again.
