Chicago sun times, pro gun article on VT

"Had the Second Amendment not been in effect repealed by VT, someone might have been able to do as two students did five years ago at the Appalachian Law School: When a would-be mass murderer showed up, they rushed for their vehicles, grabbed their guns and pinned him down until the cops arrived"

That's a damned good article. I am ashamed of our institutions of higher 'learning' right now, not only for their disarmament of student CHL holders, but for their absolute refusal to connect in any way with the real world. Had I not gone (back) to school after being in the military and seeing some of that 'real' world for myself, I shudder to think what sort of effect this craven willful ignorance and depraved indifference to reality might have had on me...

Shame on you Yale, shame on you Emmanuel College... Shame.

Good read, it certainly couldn't of been printed in Chicago though, that sounds much more practical than their mayor would allow.

OPFOR, the thing about a lot of people who run and teach at places of higher learning is that they never have to leave the academic world. They go to grade school, high school, college for a BA, masters, PHD, and then teach their until they retire. And that does make them slightly misguided to say the least. The best professors I have had are the ones who have had a career aside from teaching (especially the veterans, but thats probably personal bias), because they realize their is more to the world than school.

I once had a professor want to talk to me after class, saying that a paper I wrote wasn't up to snuff or as good as usual, she wanted to know why. I told her that I had put in over 40 hours in 3 nights in a weekend at work (home football game weekends are busy at the bar), and that I just did the paper to get it done. She said "Well, why do you need to work? You are a student and that should be your job." Yeah, because being a student pays me a salary that covers the rent and tuition and $500 a quarter for books, right. Sometimes they just don't get life.

That sounds all too familiar. Not everybody gets to put all their expenses (plus party money) on daddy's credit card until they graduate. The worst profs, though, were the ones who wouldn't even acknowlege that you were taking classes other than theirs.

To the OP, that article hit it square on the nose. Everybody knows who the easy targets are except for the targets themselves, who can't tell a predator from a protector.

buckeye, I totally understand. When I went back to school, it was with a full time job, a part time job (National Guard), a wife and a child. I would laugh in the face of professors with the "school is all you have to focus on" mentality. And you are also right about academia - it is as closed a society as they come.

It really is a shame, and reminds me of one of my favorite quotes (attributed to Thucydides): "The society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."

    Great article, from Chicago though?
I had a prof that told us we needed to dedicate about 4 hours per day to his course. Yeah, on top of the other 4 classes I had and a part time job. When many students dropped his class, he stated that we were not dedicated enough.

". Eventually they figured they could spend months knocking on doors in rural Vermont and New Hampshire and seeing nothing for their pains but cranky guys in plaid leveling both barrels through the screen door. So even these idiots worked it out: Where's the nearest place around here where you're most likely to encounter gullible defenseless types who have foresworn all means of resistance? Answer: Dartmouth College. So they drove over the Connecticut River, rang the doorbell, and brutally murdered a couple of well-meaning liberal professors. Two depraved misfits of crushing stupidity (to judge from their diaries) had nevertheless identified precisely the easiest murder victims in the twin-state area."

I know about this case and this quote is sooooooo true. Where to find gullible, defenseless types? Why a college campus, that's where. It is so hard to argue with stupid.

With all due respect to those students who were killed...32 young energetic college...no gun...unable to defend themselves. In the same week, an 80+ year old woman balancing herself on her walker pulls out a pistol and defends her property from three thugs trying to steal from her. Two run and the third tries to escape in a car...the old gal (a 1944 beauty queen) shoots out a couple of tires and holds the BG until police arrive...

Can anyone see the value of that FIREARM?

    Apparently the liberal press cannot...

As a former resident of the People's Democratic Socialist Republik of Chicago-Illinois, I can't hardly believe that the Chicago Sun-Times (which is the more liberal of the two newspapers there) published this article!

It's like the Iranian state newspaper publishing a pro-Israel article.
