    kayak camping

Went out this weekend with 2 good friends. Loaded the yaks up with all out camp gear and paddled down a small stream. We expected to have a portage, due to trees fallen across the river. (did a similar trip last year)
Saturday morning after a hearty b-fast we dropped our shuttle truck at the take out , drove to the put in and saddled up. The morning was nice 65 degrees out and sunny. About an hour into the paddle we ran into massive deadfalls. A 1/2 mile hike pulling boats over trees and brush got us back to the water and easy paddling.
Ducks , geese , eagles and deer abound along the river. We also spotted trout and sucker swimming along . We shot over the beaver dam , then started searching for a camp site.
We set up along the river and unpacked our gear. After supper we sat around talking and catching up on old times between good friends. the stars were out and it was good to be out in the woods.
A geat horned owl was heard hooting , as well as coyotes howling and a ruffed grouse who decided he would drum his wings most of the night. Hope ya enjoy the pics.
no pics of me, as I was operating the camera.

Great pics Rocky. I could not check them all out since I'm on Snail Up...I mean Dial Up tonight. I will in the morn though.
Glad that you had a great time.

Looks like a good time. Its time for me to drag out the dirt bikes and go on a 100 mile trail ride. We do the same concept as you do with your boats, its lots of fun.
We should try kayaks this year, we have plenty of rivers close by.

Wow, now that looks like fun.

I'd love to try kayaking someday...the peaceful still water kind, not the whitewater dash-your-brains-on-rocks kind. Yeah, I'm chicken.

Thanks for sharing the great pics!

Spent last week kayaking at Hilton Head oogling million dollar homes. Different atmosphere but love to kayak!

I've been away from the outdoors since I quit hunting. Those pictures bring back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice pics.

Looks like you had a nice trip. The rapids look fun too.

I have a Seaward 17' fiberglass touring boat and it reacts badly to rocks and anything hard. So no rapids for me. I do enjoy flat water paddling though. It's nice to just paddle and let the rudder do the work for you.

I really miss getting out, now I miss it even more.

Looks like it was a lot of fun.

Some years back, I had a Perception Corsica, which was perfectly designed for self-supporting trips down the river. That puppy carried a lot of gear. 38 lb unit, it was, so trudging up and over deadfalls and other messes got tiring, but it meant that spare everything could be taken along. Loved every minute of it.

Thanks all. Kayak camping is about the same as light gear hiking. Packing to save weight and space. After being out with good friends, the best part is we saw no other people all day.

Sometimes I wonder who the old man in the mirror is....

Lord, Grant me a good sword and no need to use it.
