    Songs about guns........

    Hi Everybody!

I'm not very familiar with rap or country music, but I was just wondering if anybody had any favorite gun songs.

For example, two of my favorites are:

GOLDEN EARRING - "Twilight Zone" (1982)
    Intro:
Somewhere early morning in a hotel room
there's a guy starting to realize
    that eternal fate
has turned it's back on him.
    It's 2am....
    1st Verse:
    It's 2 am (it's 2 am)
The fear is gone (the fear is gone)
I'm sitting here waiting (sitting here waiting)
The gun's still warm (the gun's still warm)
    Maybe my connection
    Is tired of taking chances
Yeah, there's a storm on the loose
    Sirens in my head
    Wrapped up in silence
    All circuits are dead
    Cannot decode
My whole life spins into a frenzy
    Chorus:
    (2 times)
Help I'm steppin' into the Twilight Zone
    Place is a madhouse
    Feels like being cloned
    My becaons been moved
    Under moon and star
Where am I to go Now that I've gone too far
    (2 times)
Soon You will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
    2nd Verse:
    I'm fallin' down a spiral
    Destination unknown
    Double-crossed messenger
    All alone
    Can't get no connection
Can't get through where are you?
    Well the night weighs heavy
    On his guilty mind
    This far from
    The border line
    When the hitman comes
He knows damn well he has been cheated
    (chorus)

YES - "Shoot High Aim Low" (1987)

These are a few decades old but I wondered if any other similiar songs come to mind.

    Thanks!

It's not about the caliber you carry, it's about how you USE it.

    Big Iron by Marty Robbins
Hairtrigger Colt .44 by Chris Ledoux
Bubba Shot the Jukebox by Mark Chesnut
Sonora's Death Row by Robert Earl Keen
Don't take your guns to town, Folsom prison blues, Hung my head, all by Johnny Cash

Theres some country, all pretty heavy on firearms stuff, although there are many many more songs that have references to them, especially in older country.

Saturday Night Special - Skynard. One of the reasons, though I like their music, I don't listen to them much.

Two feet they come a creepin'
    Like a black cat do
And two bodies are layin' naked
Creeper think he got nothin' to lose
So he creeps into this house, yeah
    And unlocks the door
And as a man's reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of thirty-eight holes

    chorus:
    It's the Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
    Ain't good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

    Big Jim's been drinkin' whiskey
And playin' poker on a losin' night
And pretty soon ol' Jim starts a thinkin
    Somebody been cheatin' and lyin'
So Big Jim commence to fightin'
I wouldn't tell you no lie
Big Jim done pulled his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes

    chorus
Oh, it's the Saturday night special
Hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
    You might even shoot yourself

So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ol' fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

    chorus
    It's the Saturday night special
And I'd like to tell you what you could do with it
And that's the end of the song

    Two old ones:

(There were two old ones my dad used to sing, must have been from the 1930's or 1940's. Mostly, I just remember the choruses, not the verses.)

I didn't know the gun was loaded,
And I'm so sorry, my friend.
I didn't know the gun was loaded,
And I'll never, never do it again.
(That's all I remember of that one.)

Oh, lay that pistol down, Babe,
    Lay that pistol down!
    Pistol packin' mama,
    Lay that pistol down!
(And that's all I remember of that too.)

    Pistol packin mama
Lay that thing down before it goes off and hurts somebody!

Oh, she kicked out my windshield
And she hit me over the head.
She cussed and cried and said I lied
And she wished that I was dead.

Oh, lay that pistol down, Babe.
    Lay that pistol down.
    Pistol packin mama
    Lay that pistol down.

I was going to post 32-20 Blues, but rodc13 beat me to it.

There's Downtown Money Waster by the Black Crowes. The whole song isn’t about guns, but it has this cool lyric in it…

“You got a .38 and your book of Revelations
I got a .44 and load of temptation”
Blessed be the Lord my rock who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle. Psalm 144:1
