Chris, I have heard the 1300 feels as though it needs a 6th gear. I hear you can get the final drive from the 1800 and that eliminates that problem.

Can't say I have thought that Art ...... I do often skip thru 4 to five from three - but once in top don't really feel revolutions are too high. I think too perhaps, the lesser HP and probably torque too - would mean it's better accepting higher rpm's at high cruising speeds.

It is rare when I have pushed it to 100 or over - but it'll do it! Mostly just legal speeds so around 65-70 and she'll do that all day with no fuss. A drop to four will allow quite impressive revolutions for a quick burst too but even in top it picks up well from say 50 thru 70.

I'm well happy with mine as it is

honda's are nice. As P95 said, the MPG is not the greatest on the 1800, especially if you push it. It does have alot of snot to it.

    Have fun.

I agree with Chis's earlier comment there doesn't seem to be any problem with the VTX 1300 over-reving. As a matter of fact it gets so quiet at around 65-70 mph it is a little scary.

Thats good to hear about the vtx 1300's. Honda engineers do it right, but sometimes a lil' tweaking don't hurt a thing.
