    When it rains it pours....

I posted a thread about my wife's boss and her daughter being shot by the neighbor kid with a pellet rifle in the general firearms section. She is doing much better now and now this.

My daughter broke her right arm Saturday roller blading.

She had a great softball game in the morning, she is the catcher on her team and she is very good, then when we came home, she put on her roller blades and went out. Within 10 minutes she came back in the house complaining about her right arm and tells us she fell. (She had pads and a helmet on) and her elbow is swollen and tender.

Later that night we took her to the ER because it was still swollen and she was in a lot of pain. Several X-rays later, the Doc tells us she broke her arm at the elbow.

She still doesn't have a cast yet, it was too swelled up to put a cast on so we must go see the Ortho Doc Wednesday for the casting.

    It's always something.

Oh Mike - indeed things do seem to come in groups - and her right arm too! I am assuming she is right handed.

The elbow is particularly painful too - I know from busting my left one in 1999. I wonder if she broke the olecranon process or maybe just some damage to radius ..... anyways, I guess the swelling has to be allowed to subside a bit. Good thing tho is - young bones heal quicker than old!

Shucks man - give her a (careful) hug for us and let us know progress etc.

Hang in there, Mike. Take care of that young one. Chris is right though, the young bone heal much faster than the older ones. Take care.

I had to go into Kindergarten with a broken right arm (and I'm right handed) and so my introduction to learning how to write properly and form words was around a bulky cast. It was not fun, that's for sure.

I hope your daughter's arm heals quickly and without complication.

All the best to her and your family.

I had 4 fractures to my arms growing up, 2 of them were from rollerblading. I even managed to fracture my wrist while wearing one of the wrist guards. Ya gotta watch out for those rollerblades, especially when you try to catch yourself as you fall.

    Hope she heals quick.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. She'll be fine. Kids get all sorts of bumps and bruises when at play. Do any of you remember the old washing machines with the wringers at the top? I caught my right hand in one and it pulled my arm in almost up to the shoulder (I was 4 or 5 at the time). Give her a good hug from us.

If there was any good luck to be had in this thing, she broke her right arm and she is left handed. So, she can still write and do most things just fine.

Also, she got her cast put on today. The swelling went down enough that they could put it on today. She has a hot pink cast that goes from between her shoulder and elbow to her fingers. And, no more pain. The Doc says the cast will come off in only 3 weeks too.

All in all, not too bad.

Lefty eh Mike - now there's a relief . of sorts! Good to she has cast and three weeks - that sounds like not too severe a fracture.

Only my curiosity - but what was the fracture ... bone and position?.
