Looks like this victim Gets It.
It was apparently too early in the morning for the Park Police to be up which is exactly why you need a carry permit.
Mugging at Lake Calhoun

It's a perfect time to run, jog or bike around Twin Cities’ lakes -- but now there's a question of safety at one popular hot spot. Someone robbed and pistol-whipped a bicyclist at Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis earlier this morning. The incident happened at 3033 East Calhoun Parkway.
The victim, who asked to remain anonymous for his security, was taking his bike off of his truck at about 5:30 this morning when the incident took place.
Two strangers confronted him, but the victim refused their demands to get into his truck with them.
That’s when the two men assaulted the victim, and took his bike, wallet, and his truck – leaving him behind, bruised and battered in the street.
“I guess I’m more of an advocate, and I don’t want to have a knee-jerk reaction, but I’m definitely more of an advocate of conceal and carry after this incident” he said. “Because I think I would have had a chance to defend myself better.”
Park Police normally patrol the lakes area to provide security, but because it was so early in the morning no one was on duty at the time. For that reason, Minneapolis Police responded instead.

This comment is as disgraceful as the crying police chief from NOLA complaining about his officers having to walk around with wet feet. Pitiful. Glad the victim will be okay, though.

Why is it that so many people have to be mugged or beaten or shot at before they decide they value the 2nd Amendment?

Is it just me, or is the starter post on this thread wide? The others are ok, but the first thread doesn't fit on the page. I have to use the scroll right/left bar on the bottom of the browser to read it.
Anyway: Yeah, what Pete said.

Very many people who should know better and have families that depend on them do not themselves secure life insurance. Why? Because the do not want to face the prospect of their own mortality, it costs too much/is expensive (!), or simply they don't think they need it. Thats what my insurance agent told me when my wife & I both inquired about as much back when we were in our mid 20s and first starting our in life. He was stunned that we actually sought him out for as much and were educated toward the various types of options.
Also how many people do we all know that still to this day refuse or 'forget' to wear a seatbelt (be they driver or passenger in the front or back seat) contrary to all manner of anecodotal evidence (i.e. Princess Di!) as well as scientific study and simple common sense never mind the laws of physics. After they get thrown through a windshield or their chest & face bashed in upon hitting surfaces inside their vehicle they then go gosh I wish I would have worn my seatbelt.
People just don't think that bad stuff will or can happen to them.
They largely walk around not wanting to think about or acknowledge it. Those that do in the majority figure and bet that if they just 'give them what they want' then they'll walk away shaken but not stirred. As well others just don't have the spirit to harm a fly muchless raise a hand to their own defense be it on a schoolyard playground in their home toward an abusive family member or outside to swat a 'living breathing being' fly never mind holding a weapon of any sort against a human...even if that human wants to to take their life along with their lunch and monies.
I'm convinced most people will never get it and that most people throughout time have not. If more people did in history past then there would have been far less overrun of towns and civilizations by armed hordes and 'governments'.
As based on results most folks will just never get it unless like seatbelts, and in my state with health insurance, they are legislated into actively investing in personal insurance toward themselves. And even in Keenesaw where such a law has been passed people there still have refused by choice to do so.

It is probably the header logo that is causing the horizontal scroll - you'd need to view browser at about 1200 res currently, and smaller gives the problem. Sometimes the software compensates for the drift on subsequent posts.

Ahh - no - this time it is the mega long URL that does it .... sorry. Unusually it has failed to truncate.

Ahh, ok. I've seen this a few times but it happens so infrequently I usually just blow it off.
