Well there was that one episode of Columbo, but I don't think that counts.

Nope but the ATF doesn't issue cannons to its agents.

[sarcasm on]I thought they happened all the time. I live near Fork Union, Va which is home to a military academy. Out in front they have a WW1 vintage howitzer.... I duck every time I go by it......just in case![sarcasm off]

Sigmund Freud would have enjoyed talking to this lady. I wonder what in her past caused her to fear the big gun?

Or you could take her to Norfolk Va George. My old ship USS Wisconsin is now a museum downtown next to the Naughticus Maritime Museum. I have been on the Alabama many many times and believe me, it is a great ship to go and visit. But the Wisconsin is bigger.

Next time you find yourself in the Norfolk area, go see Her. She is a heck of a sight. We are going next September (2008) for a crewmember reunion. I can't wait.

This could be the funniest thread I've read in a long time.

I doubt she's scared the gun will go off and hurt anyone. She probably just wants to eliminate any reminders that violence exists so she can raise her children to be good little sheep. Of course, they'll need to stop teaching history in school too.

They are pretty much already doing that in many schools. Most modern historians like to exclude military history from their teachings and knowledge.

Not saying that all do, but I know I didn't learn much about the military side of things in school, and since I have been immersed in the academic field of history for the past 4 years, that is my observation.

From what I have read is that when offered Miltary history courses are often overbooked as the demand is there, but the desire to teach hasn't been or hasn't been allowed. Ralph Peters was commenting that there is a shortage of highly trained military historians to replace the aging ones.

Sorry...you are correct, of course. I haven't looked hard enough or missed it, probably...do we know what type of civil war artillery piece it is?
