even being illegal, our dive club and also our motor club would do the same thing . that way when managers and owners of small businesses counted their tills . they would see how much money our event generated . funny how money being spent seems to change peoples perceptions and opinons .

I remember back in the days when (late 50s, early 60's) cities with a neighboring military bases would have disparaging newspaper editorials or, in some cases, degrading action toward the young GI's serving there. "Keep off the grass, sailors and dogs" comes to mind in the Norfolk area. Riots in Biloxi, Ms. aimed at Keesler AFB is another. Uncle Sam in those days paid in CASH and would pay us in $2 bills. When the local businesses found how much of their income came from those $2 bills, problems soon quieted down. I went through 2 of those episodes, 1 in San Diego and 1 in Jacksonville, Fl. I am sure it happened in other locations simply to remind the local population that we were a HUGE part of the local economy.

might be illegal..but I like the idea. Might have to look into getting a stamp made. Civil disobidence AND show the local business owners whos spending the money...

I haven't seen that, but I have seen "Where's George?" stamped on a few $1s. You go to their website and input the serial no of the bill and your zip code. It shows you were the bill has been.
