    Tourist's Joke

Right after my breakdown, I needed quiet and I stayed in a remote cabin, owned by one of our church elders, on the border of Yellow Knife. I had the Marlin .45-70, a few good books, an ample supply of seroquil and a subscription to 'Iron Horse.' One morning I stoked the pot belly stove with a few sticks of wet wood, and the smoke brought in a neighbor from the next section of land. I answered the door.

"Oh," a huge grizzly woodsman commented at being startled, "I thought Fred had come for a few days."
"No," I admitted, "I'm from his church, seeking a change of pace."
"Well, I was going to invite him to a party," the woodsman gesticulated, "I don't suppose you'd like to come? Might not be your cup o' tea, being a religious person."
"Hey, I'm a former cycle club member," I sheepishly replied, "not much chills me anymore."
"Well, there's going to be a bit of dancing..."
"Oh, I loved to dance when I was younger."
    "Might be some cussin'..."
    "I've heard it all."
"I know there's gonna be some drinkin'..."
"I enjoy a good tequila now and then myself."
"...and with all of that drinking, there's going to be sex..."
"Boys, will be boys," I grinned, "Sounds like a real bash. Just exactly how many people are going to be at this shin-dig, anyway?"
The woodsman kind of hung his head, "Well, just you and me..."

It was at this point I realized that Marlin wasn't such a bad idea, after all.

Well, I do go to church with an elder named Fred, and he does have a cabin, except it's in the Porcupine Mountains near the border of Wisconsin and the upper peninsula. That's the U.P., and because of the 'unique verbiage and lifestyle' of the residents, most Wisconsinites refer to these gentlemen as "Yoopers."

I'll check on some free dates at the cabin, and tell Fred your a'comin' to meet the boys.

But for heaven's sake don't burn any wet wood.
