    Finally got my dream camera!

Ok, I'm an aspiring photographer in my spare time, and I've done some professional photography in my day. However, I could never even come close to affording the camera I wanted... the Nikon F5.

It's really incredible... I think it came out in 1996. Anyhow, ever since Nikon started coming out with high-res digital versions of the F5, like the D2XS, the F5's have become widely available used.

I got mine in the mail today, and let me tell you, it lives up to many years worth of expectations. 8 frames per second, 16 different focusing screens to choose from, and dozens of incredible Nikon lenses. Ahh... perfection.

I'd post a picture, but that would require a very interesting bending of the rules of physics.

what?! No pics of the camera? J/K , glad you got a nice high end camera. I recently switched to a mid grade digi cam and love having decent features and the ability to take lots of pics. Not sure if yours is a digi , or film camera.

Always aspired to that kinda camera Pete - nice find.

Back in my freelance days I ''made do" with three Pentax bodies and mostly Tamron lenses - but knew I could enjoy better gear. Now all digital but still appreciate good cameras.

My fave old film camera for pure quality potential was a Mamiya C330 - 2 1/4" square.

I'm a big film fan, even have my own color/bw darkroom.

I used a pair of Minolta Maxxum 800's with vertical grips and lots of lenses, but this Nikon puts them shame!

    I also shoot a Mamiya RB67 which is a 6x7 cm.

make that +1 N the Mamiya too in 35 and 2 1/4 X 2 1/4, color analyzer, Besler enlarger, N yes I do digital too but the quality of the film still kicks butt, especially the fine grained stuff.

The Nikon F has been around a long time and is indeed a fine camera. Wish that i had bought one 35 years ago instead of that Leica M-4. Got some good photos and won many photo contests with my Leica but my friend won more with his Nikon F.

nice camera! I've been an SLR guy for years and finally picked up a Canon 20D a couple of years ago just before my first son was born. Love it! plain and simple. A nice dSLR and photoshop is almost as fun as an actual darkroom.
I prefer the canon L series lenses over the nikon myself, but getting into that debate is a bit of a religious one for many so we'll leave it at that!

I got rid of all my Leica stuff and went digital. Sold all of it to Jap collectors and got 10K+ for it.

The only SLR I keep is my Dad's old Canon AE-1 - and then, just because it was his. I will admit though, that still life comes through on that camera far better than any of the compact point and shoot digitals that I've had over the years. Plus, the newer cameras can't take a shutter speed over 2 seconds, so I keep it around for open shutter work on the 4th of July.

Sounds like i need to peddle mine. Got the normal, closeup, and telephoto lenses as well as a photo copy kit. Thanks for the tip.
