    What California counties issue CCW?

As I mentioned in another post, I may have to return to California. Since there are a few jobs that I'm looking at that have multiple sites, i may have a choice in location. I would hate to lose the ability to carry, so if anyone knows what counties will issue CCWs, it would influence where I choose to look.

I had some luck, years ago, with Tehama County. I owned property there, and knew some of the members of the sheriff's department though.

Humboldt County, Calif. Carried there for 10yrs. It's fairly rural, on the coast, beautiful. The people there are very big on self-sufficiency and protecting themselves. So's the sheriff, thankfully. The sheriff's dept. is very big on the idea of citizens training and carrying.

Of course, California's a on-your-knees-and-beg state, so you must have a "good" reason for needing the protection. For me, the rationale always was: to comply with the law; to guard against things like two prior attempted car jackings, one two-person parking lot attack, one home invasion, and a few other things blowing up in front of me. I had been told that nothing was required beyond the "comply with the law" rationale, but I had the history to stand on and presented that as "proof" of the need.

At least in Humboldt County, you're allowed three (?) guns on the license at any given time, and you must qualify with the highest-caliber one on the license. So, for example, if you've got a 1911 .45, a Browning Hi-Power 9mm and a Ruger SP101 .357, you'd need to qualify with the 1911 in order to use all of them on the street.

Simplest might be to simply call the sheriff's dept. in the area you're considering to live. Speak with the sheriff or a deputy directly, to get a feel for their sense of commitment to armed citizens. The internet can also fill in the blanks, such as this forum: California CCW, where you can get a good feel for counties around the state, hook up with others in those counties who have direct knowledge on the process in that county, etc.

Thanks! I'll keep those in mind, along with any other areas that future posters may add. Too bad Santa Clara isn't one of those.

You can get one relatively easy in Orange County, an urban county just south of LA County.

Eldorado County (my home sweet home) has a rather pro Issue sherrif. Jeff is a great guy and the ladies in the records office were rather cute.

As with all statements I've made and All that I will make, please check your local laws to verify accuracy. (and if i'm wrong let me know as I like to be right in the future) After all I'm just some goofball posting on an internet forum.
