Cool An Ivory Magazine Slam Pad

This is a really dumb idea but, it looks really good with my new Ivory Colt C. Commander grips.
I made it last night. Here is a picture.
I never saw or heard of one before so I thought it might be a neat thing to try making instead of putting up my wifes curtain rods ...which is what I was supposed to be doing while I was busy making this little Ivory magazine slam pad.

QKS....where do you get the ivory slabs from? I've watched eBay and seen a few, but most seem to only be sized for knife handles. I'd love to work a pair for my Nighthawk....really like the looks of the mammoth ivory.

    thanks

The mag I used was a Stainless Meggar with a "plus power" Wolff mag spring.
I like that magazine & spring combination for my C. Commander.
It gives me perfect feed reliability.

Most of the ivory I have I bought a long time ago.
I've cut up more than a few hefty tusks in my day.
I used to do a lot more work in Ivory than I do these days.
It's fantastic stuff to work with. I love it.
I used to do mostly replacement Ivory handles for Sterling flatware sets and turned Ivory knobs and Sterling Tea and Coffee Pot replacement handle "heat insulators" & other boring and mundane restoration/repair work like that.

Right now...I am working on a set of Ivory grips for my Stainless Ruger .44 mag single action. They are working out really well & the Ivory is super pretty. I'll post a pic when I get them done.

QK - otherwise known as ''Elephant Man'' LOL!

Is it true tho - the dust from ivory is toxic?? Always heard that. Nice job BTW.

    Organic Dust

All organic dust is not real good for you to breath in.
And then if you smoke cigarettes on top of that your lungs will sure take a beating.
PEARL AKA Mother Of Pearl dust is the one that will get you though. That is very toxic and has a shellfish component in the dust that will affect your central nervous system.
Some woods are very toxic also. CocoBolo is a highly TOXIC wood. (I found that out!) The CocoBolo dust is....you're very safe just using your beautiful CocoBolo Grips.
Interestingly Ivory Jelly was (at one time) considered to be a Gourmet Delicacy.
It was made from Ivory dust cooked with water and sugar and was served just like regular jelly. Yummy!

I have a set of Ajax grips on my Colt .380 Government.

Rumor has it that these style grips are made from mixing a polymer with the dust left over from making piano keys. Is that correct?

    Anyway, they sure feel nice.

I'm hoping that some of these after-market knife customizing outfits can offer sets for Pro Techs.

Yes, yes, I know they are stilettos...

    Thumbs up Tourist

    Could Likely Be
I know that some grip makers were doing that. Ivory dust mixed with polymer & they actually start to patina just like full tusk Ivory and are very tough and stable & never warp or bow.
