    Las Vegas shooting in casino

    http://www.kvbc.com/Global/story.asp?S=6753632

Police now say five people were hurt when a man opened fire from a casino balcony inside a Las Vegas Strip casino early Friday.

None of the injuries was life-threatening. Everyone's been treated and released -- including three people who were wounded, one who was grazed by a bullet fragment or shrapnel and one woman was bruised when she was trampled in the crowd fleeing the New York New York hotel-casino.

The accused gunman was tackled by two off-duty military reservists after the 12:45 am shooting and held for police to arrive.

He's identified as 51-year-old Steven Zegrean of Las Vegas -- a Hungarian immigrant and former house painter who family members say has been making threats toward them in recent weeks.

Police say he was emotionally distraught -- and that the shooting has nothing to do with terrorism. He's facing felony charges including attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in an occupied structure.

Tourist Jade Jacobson from Deland, Florida, says it was pandemonium -- with people running and jumping over slot machines and knocking over chairs. Jacobson's cousin was wounded in the leg, but has been treated at the hospital and released.

A 13-year-old from Van Nuys, California who was wounded in the ankle says he thinks the gunman shot at random -- and wasn't aiming at him.

Police have surveillance tapes from inside the casino showing the shooting. No word yet whether those images will be made public before court proceedings.

Police say the gunman entered the casino from a Las Vegas Boulevard walkway connecting the New York-New York to the MGM Grand hotel-casino and randomly shot at people on the casino floor below.

People wonder why we do what we do. Some of my co-workers (I work at a Marriott Hotel on the strip) look at me funny because I ALWAYS have my rig on outside of work. This story makes me send that look right back at'em! Lord please comfort the injured victims and thier families. God Bless you folks.

Heck , not to belittle anyones injures but i played poker at NYNY , and the only thing i left feeling i missed from the true ny experiance ( i had allready been mugged ) was the being shot at . I hope the new business plan works out well for them seeing as how the casino never closed for the investigation of this incident .

What makes you think that the casino would close? They NEVER close- the loss of income would be dramatic. They didn't close the Luxor when the bombing occurred in the parking lot, and they didn't close the Gold Coast when an armed robbery occurred.

As far as the shooting, it's thought to have been an attempt at "Suicide by cop". The most ridiculous thing was when one of the TV commentators wondered why they don't have metal detectors at the door! The hotels, having more sense, answered that it would delay people too long. So, don't look for them in the casinos any time soon!
