    LINK TO ARTICLE

I remember hearing about this a while back. The "licencing" for color television. But wow. I had no idea they went this far.
To those that paid for my freedom,
    I WILL NEVER FORGET.

As with all statements I've made and All that I will make, please check your local laws to verify accuracy. (and if i'm wrong let me know as I like to be right in the future) After all I'm just some goofball posting on an internet forum.

They have it this way because they have never stood up for themselves and said ENOUGH of this stupidity. So, to heck with them, they brought all of it on themselves. Their welfare state mentality is just deserts for their sheeple mentality.

Brief mention here - tho it is an absurd deal.

Way back BBC was the only purveyor of TV material - and not too long after, ITV (independent TV) started too. Now, they advertize and so no one should have to pay for them. But ........ because BBC is Gov't run - they always had this licence fee deal. In fact believe it or not there was even one for radio once upon a time!!!!

So - now, even if a TV viewer says he/she only watches independent or satellite channels, they still get hit just because they ''might'' be watching BBC! That's how I used to read it anyways.

    Crazy huh!

It is impossible to explain TV licenses to Americans, FWIW Britain used to have licenses for dogs too... if you owned a dog you had to buy a license.

Actually Pete - I think we could be forgiven for assuming that the Brit's invented the ''licence''. I recall I had to have a separate specific licence to buy Black Powder too

In Britain you can't get a license unless you have a license to get one... it's a Kafkaesque nightmare but the man on the street thinks it's 'all just dandy guv'na'.

Haha - that's close Pete ... excuse thread drift but it reminds me of the deal with Equity. (Actor's Union guys).

"I want to be an actor"

"Do you have your Equity Card?"

    "No - I haven't started yet"

"Well, you gotta have an Equity Card"

    "How do I get one?"

    "You gotta start acting"

    Duh ...........

Most important thing for a government to do to keep the power over it's subjects is to restrict the access to information.

Why do you think the UN wants control over the internet?

This isn't new, but it does show how bad things are getting.
Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.

If I remember right, they used to call them "stamps" and apply them to things like tea (and everything else) in certain colonies.

I wasn't aware the subjects over there had to have gov't permission to watch TV. Good grief!
