Question United Kingdom Subjects See Need...

(but can they ever get their guns back?...probably not. ):

    Weapon wielding householders
    Last updated: 16 July 2007

One in three people in the UK stash a weapon in their home to protect themselves from intruders

Almost a third of UK residents store a weapon close to their beds to use against intruders.

According to a survey, householders confessed to stashing items such as golf clubs, cricket bats and heavy torches to use in self-defence. [A firearm sure would be a more effective choice than any of these, wouldn't they? ]

I can't help but think of Winston Churchill (mentioned on another thread today): "We will fight them on the beaches [with our golf clubs], we shall fight on the landing grounds [with our cricket bats], we shall fight in the fields and in the streets [with our heavy torches]...."

Doesn't have quite the same ring, does it?

BTW, in England a flashlight is called a torch. So they are referring to Maglites in the article.

My Dad has a cricket bat next to his bed, not ideal at all.
