I have to leave my new couch out in the back of my truck for the night

I got a new (to me) leather couch this morning at a garage sale up in northern virginia. I planned on moving back into my college apartment today so my dad let me borrow his truck so I could move this new couch with me. I called some friends who said they would be able to help me after they got off of work--after 10pm.

Well, I can't get a hold of him and there is no way to move this couch in by myself. I am completely exhausted and falling asleep at my computer typing this. I need to go to sleep.

I covered the couch with a tarp and moved it away from the high traffic area right under a light. My thinking is that being under the tarp will keep it out of sight and out of mind and getting it away from the high traffic area keeps everyone in my apartment from looking in the back of my truck as they come and go...and the light its under will dissuade someone from trying to take it(hopefully).

Is there anything else I can do other than hope for the best. I got it for $45 so its not a HUGE loss if someone takes it but its an AWESOME couch and I am really excited about it. There isn't alot of crime in this area except for small crimes of opportunity... this is an opportunity if I ever saw one.

Well, I hope its still there in the morning I have to go to sleep.

haha I actually thought about that but its kinda cold out and I wouldn't feel very comfortable doing that. Not considering the fact that I would look like a vagrant.

Just write a note on it saying "You are being watched" If the person isnt a crack addict they will most likely leave it alone.

If the person is a crack addict, they have no car to get it anywhere and are too weak to move it anyhow.

Sorry, but thats the best advice I can give at this point.

I am gonna go check on it one last time before I hit the rack. Maybe I will get lucky and find a helpful person coming home from work or somethin.

Well if it has recliner's on each end it does come apart pretty easy. Just take off the two support pieces on the bottom and then take the backs off.

That's how I got mine in the house all by myself. Of course I used to to that for a living. lol.

    You beat me to it.

Kavity..since you're worried about looking like a vagrant, sleep on the couch, and hang a note on it "not vagrant, poor college student"

Definitely sleep on it. One uncomfortable night is no big deal.

    Just woke up.

I am going to look now!

edit: wooo hoooooo still there!! :) Now I just need to get a hold of someone to help me move it in today. It sucks moving back into town early...no one else is here. IIRC the population of blacksburg more than doubles when the students come back and triples on game days.
