    Because the self-righteous won't admit not knowing everything that is for your protection or for your own good. Saying "I don't know," when professing to "know better than you" weakens their position.

    I miss Tucker's bowties. He stopped wearing them after a guest commented about them and stuck in something about "40 year-old virgin".
