I believe that OnStar is an extra cost option.

A friend of my brother's was on vacation when OnStar called him and announced that there was a recall on his new Chev, and that he needed to have it fixed immediately. He told them he was on vacation, but they said if he didn't get it to a dealer immediately, they would just disable the vehicle until it was fixed. He lost 3 days of his vacation waiting for the part to come in at the local dealer.

    Anybody still want OnStar?

And this boys and girls, is why I will not purchase a GM vehicle now. If you read my sig. line, just as a Gov't that is big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have....if onstar can unlock your doors, diagnose your car while you drive and tell you when the oil needs to be changed....they can kill the motor any time they want. So, I'll just keep my spare key, cell phone and Vinnie down at my mechanics garage thank you very much.

I agree,I have a problem with anyone having control of my vehicle
police. Our nation is giving away our rights because of fear ! How sad!
As I get older it becomes worrisome as the tactics have become
very heavy handed.I remember the old days when you had freedoms
you started driving on the back roads on your fathers lap.Try that now!Tickets are nothing more than money makers for the local and state governments who overspend.Whenever you are stopped you are guilty before speak.

Just another case of big brother getting bigger. This is ludicrous, im still mad at the fbi being able to listen in on your cellphone even with it being turned off.

Yea, you are probably right. I'll drive a beatup, rusty, clunker before I have a car/truck with one of these devices installed.

Why didn't he just disable it, takes about 45 seconds. OnStar eqipment is standard on sertain models but the actual service is optional and costs extra. Unless OnStar has switched to digital service it is soon to be obsolete soon as they use analog cell signals and that is quickly being phases out.

Big Brother is getting too big. Note to bad guys: use an older vehicle to elude law enforcement.

I guess the REAL question that needs answered is ...

Why in the world would someone steal a GM car in the first place ??

    LOL
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

There is no place for such logic in this thread. There are people that don't know any better such as those that write bank robbery notes on the back of their business card.
