Funny thing in the film "The Life Aquatic" with Bill Murray

I'm watching this kind of crazy comedy called "The Life Aquatic" (stars Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and others). He plays this Jacques Cousteau wannabe named Steve Zissou, and he and his career are really pretty much a joke.

Anyway, Wilson plays a guy who might be his long lost ******* son, who comes around after the death of his mother and wants to find out if this is the dad he's never known.

He joins "Team Zissou," and Bill Murray hands him a Glock pistol. When Wilson tries to decline, Murray insists, and says that everyone on the team gets one.

Sure enough, there are scenes where everyone is wearing a Glock in a thigh-rig, even when they go running on the beach, even when they are scuba diving!

It just ends up being this subtle running joke. I found it hilarious!

If they handed out Wilson's it would be worth seeing, but since it's just combat tupperware I'll pass

Yeah yeah yeah. It's still funny the way it goes, though.

I liked the movie too - my favorite part was when the radio breaks and he chucks it while they're escaping from the island. Awesome. I was rolling on the floor!

Then you'd really not like The Royal Tenenbaums, which is like a sister movie to this one, right down to having most of the same cast.

I "get" this humor -- it synchs up with me somehow -- so I like it.

I agree w/ Jeffery. I found both movies funny as all get out. But, thats my style of humor. That dry subtle stuff is the best.

I liked the "Royals" but found nothing funny or entertaining about "Life Aquatic". It was a waste of time. Rented it and couldn't even watch it all at home.

Well, I was lucky, plus I hedged the bet by taking it out of the library for free!

I just finished watching it a short while ago.

The scene where they storm the typhoon-ravaged island to rescue the auditor was funny, and I noticed something: Even though all through the movie they wave around Glocks, when they start shooting, suddenly they're all using guns that look like Beretta 92s or maybe Tauruses!

    Great continuity.
That didn't strike me as something done for comedic effect. It probably was literally an oversight by the producers, or a cut-corner because the prop guy didn't have blank-firing Glocks or something.

For another really bad scene like that, watch the movie "Mindhunters." There's a scene where a guy has a gun, a Glock, I think, and when he goes to fire it, the sabotaged gun explodes and kills him. The gun he's pointing is a Glock, and the gun he fires is a Beretta.
