ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - As the sixth-month anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre approaches, a lawyer representing 20 people killed or injured in the April shootings has began notifying the town and the state about possible lawsuits.
Blacksburg Town Attorney Larry Spencer said he received notices Friday from Peter Grenier, a personal injury lawyer in Washington, D.C., of possible lawsuits claiming negligence by the town and its employees.
A spokesman for the state attorney general's office said it received notice Friday from Grenier's law firm of a possible lawsuit on behalf of injured student Kevin Sterne. Tucker Martin said he could not say whether it was a possible lawsuit against Virginia Tech or the state itself.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. It is really hard for me to see how this unfortunate episode could be put at the feet of anyone other than the maniac responsible.
OTOH, I can't really blame the relatives for trying.
Some things in life have no answers other than stuff happens.

I hope they're suing V.T. for NOT allowing carry on campus. Probably a lot of lives could have been save by one good man with a gun... Might wake a few of these Liberal U's up if the bottom line was involved.

A lawsuit about the lack of CCW will force them to "prove" what steps they took to protect the students. If the university loses badly, then a "approved CCW" plan may be a cheaper way to minimize liability than hiring sufficient security and would also act as a precedent for future cases, involving other “gun free” zones.
