Looking for a new place to vacation
My vacation spot (White Lake, NC) is great, but I want variety, just not a tourist trap. NOT looking for big tour-plexes like big cities, theme parks, etc., want something less traveled/unique but still nice/memorable.
Can you guys recommend a good vacation spot within driving distance of VA for a family with kids age 1 and 7?
Why is White Lake great?
No chain hotels, all locally owned.
Great small beach, but usually not crowded.

If you will be vacationing within the next couple of weeks, I would recomend the Lakes area of Western Ky. It is now the "off season" for tourists and the fall colors are just now beginning to show. Fishing is great this time of the year. Lots to do and see. Nashville is 1 1/2 hours away and well woth visiting.

I would check for dams. That usually means a lake and small communities around.
You have to make the shot when fire is smoking, people are screaming, dogs are barking, kids are crying and sirens are coming.

Outer Banks of North Carolina. Great beaches, good fishing, family freindly and not too far to drive. We also have a Gun Club range that welcomes visitors ($5/day); bring your rifles, shotguns, pistols and full-auto. No guns or ammo available, so bring your own.
We also have an outlet mall and golf courses for those who don't know how to have fun.

Here is a great place to "get away from it all" and enjoy your vacation with a few intimate friends.
