Shot a squirrel today with AirRifle
today i was in the kitchen washing dishes. looked out the back window, and there was a squirrel near the back porch.
i have a .22 cal pellet gun that shoots around 725 ft/s with a powerline scope on it.
i gently raised the window. took aim and... POP!
it was going down the side of a tree about 10 yards away. i aimed for his head as to save the meat. i shot him dead on in the side of the head.
at the risk of sounding really redneck... i grabed the knife and scabbard, and went out back, and quickly cleaned it.
i am going to have a good breakfast tomorrow.
biscuits, eggs, gravy, and squirrel.
we live out in the hills, and i haven't shot and cleaned an animal in about 15 years. i am anxious to cook the little bugger.
that little .22 cal AirRifle with a scope is just the thing out to about 25 yards when shooting varmints, such as squirrels and rabbits it would seem. black birds and crows i have shot at 40 yards with success.
there are about 15 more that are around, and they are next.

You might be a bit redneck, but I live within a mile of Detroit and love a good squirrel. What do you call me? I like mine BBQ'd on the grill with fried potatoes.

Yeah, its a little redneck, but at least you didnt kill it for no reason.
I almost prefer an air rifle to a .22 when squirrel hunting. Its a little more challenge of a challenge, and I can make "tighter" shots in small patches of hardwood.

Definitely a redneck! I've never had squirrel; does it taste like chicken?

i was joking about the redneck part of my post. to be honest, i am from the south, and there is no other place i would live. i have been to all of the continental states, and there are none prettier then Arkansas.
there is nothing wrong with shooting something for food.
does it taste like chicken? well, why don't you shoot one, clean the animal, and eat it?

I live in California. If I shot a squirrel, a SWAT team would respond! I was kidding about the redneck part; I am pretty redneck myself.

Since you like squirrels you need to get on Highway 7 and go north of Dover.
We went a couple of weeks ago and about got run over by a herd of them. We had to shoot em is self defense. Me and a friend killed a limit in about 10 minutes. We had a blast.
Not to mention that we did it in some of the prettiest territory in the South. The mountains are finally starting to color up. Its absolutely beautiful.

The squirrels in Cali are not the squirrels we are used to here in the south.
Hey Artz...
he's talking about the 4 legged ones that live in trees...not the 2 legged ones that "hug "them...
