I have a hard time believing anyone would go over in a barrel, let alone survive. Maybe I would if JMB made the barrel himself...

Shucks - some folks just ask for the Darwin award

Guess if you survive at least you go down in history - instead of a casket 6 feet under

There are all kinds of stories about morons going over the falls in all kinds of contraptions... some made it, others didn't. I can tell you from going there.... I would never for a million dollars, want to go over the falls.

Just FYI....I was checking to see if Ebay was sticking to their No Major Gun Parts policy. So...I searched Ebay for Colt barrel and then "1911 Barrel" and an Ebay auction for that post card popped up.

    Hmmm

Anyone else notice the guy uses a cane? Probably has something to do with that huge dent in the barrel.

Why guys like this live and perfectly intelligent ones are snuffed out is a mystery. Maybe God is just as intolerant of stupid as we are!

Some interesting excerpts from the link:

    The 1911 guy:
"...Bobby Leach survived but broke his jaw and both kneecaps. He spent the next six months in the hospital.

Bobby eventually left the hospital and toured the world with his barrel. In 1926, while in New Zealand, he slipped on an orange peel, fracturing his leg. His leg became infected and was amputated, and Bobby Leach died of complications two months later..."

Looks like the 'falls' got him after all.

"....They came out of it relatively unscathed. Their reason for going over? They were reportedly making a statement against drugs -- to show kids there were better things to do..."

    HUH????

"...Robert Overacker decided to attempt it on a jet ski....His reason for going over? To draw attention to the homeless....He had a rocket-propelled parachute strapped to his back that he would activate just as he was going over the brink...The parachute did not deploy....His body was recovered by workers on the Maid of the Mist tour boat."

No mention of how that helped the homeless.

"...on October 3, 2003. Kirk Jones' ....simply climbed under the barrier and entered the river in his clothes. He floated down on his back and went over with no protection whatsoever.
Miraculously, he survived, uninjured except for sore ribs. He said it was like being "in a giant tunnel going straight down, surrounded by water."

I wonder if this was the inspiration for the Darwin awards?
