Florida--Man Killed by Gator While Fleeing Police

    Published: 11/13/07, 11:06 PM EDT

MICCOSUKEE TRIBE INDIAN RESERVATION, Fla. (AP) - A man who jumped into a lake to flee police was killed by an alligator more than 9-feet long, officials said Tuesday.

The man, whose name has not been released, was allegedly burglarizing a vehicle in the parking lot of the Miccosukee Resort and Convention Center on Thursday. He ran when police arrived at the scene, said Dexter Lehtinen, one of the tribe's police legal advisors.

Tribal police divers searched for the man that night, then again Friday morning and afternoon. During the third dive, the body was recovered. It bore alligator teeth marks on the upper torso.

Couldn't happen to a nicer fella. The sad thing is, Fish and Game might kill a gator now just because it's a threat to people. They don't always get the right gator, but usually a gator is good enough for them.

    More like a crunch-crunch joke.

Leave to Miami, some have guard dogs and some even have geese. We have gators!

So, let me get this straight. We are saying that the appropriate penalty for attempting to break into a car is to be eaten alive by an alligator. I dislike the BG's as much as the rest, but I think I will take a pass on that one.

Penalty? Nobody heaped that on the BG. He did that for himself. Speaking simply for myself, if a BG opts to "escape" in that manner, so be it.

The "gentleman" jumped into a clearly posted body of water as people screamed at him to get out of it because Poncho The Mean Gator lived there.
IMHO opinion he chose wrong twice: Breaking the Law and selecting the wrong avenue of escape. Nobody forced him to do either.

    Poor gator
A real man loves his wife, and places his family as the most important thing in life. Nothing has brought me more peace and content in life than simply being a good husband and father.
