Another milestone reached.....
Well, this morning at 10:36 CDT, I will be 40 years old. Man, where did all those years go and how come they seem to have passed so darn quickly?
I don't feel like I have been around for 40 years. Maybe 20....but not 40. Oddly enough, I am in better shape now than I have been since I was in my early 20's. And I do feel great physically but it just seems so unreal that I am 40 years old.
I don't think it will change anything. I'm still going to keep riding my bicycle about 175 to 200 miles a week (as soon as spring gets here, during the winter I am transitioning back to the Nordic Track) and lifting weights.
Still going to be the best father I can be to my kids and the best husband I can be to my lovely wife. And I will keep carrying to protect them.
Things will continue as normal for me. After all, it's just a number and age is a state of mind more than anything.
Maybe someone will buy me a gun for my birthday. I can wish right?

Mike, I thought you were having a BIRTHDAY until I read a little further and saw that it was only a birthday. Congrats and have a good one.
I will be having a BIRTHDAY in 58 days. On January 11, 2008 I will turn the BIG 60. If you think the years have flown for you. It was only last week I turned 40. Also in '08 my wife and I celebrate 30 years of wedded bliss. That seems even less likely than living 60 years. It seems more like 30 weeks.

new math
Mike, you made it! The big 4-0 is a great place to be for a day.
My kids, both of them, have talked about higher mathmatics like calculas, differential equations and other things that I can not pronounce nor spell since 9th grade. It has been and still is real interesting to listen to them talk about this stuff. So, the other day they were giving us grief about being so old at 51. My reply was this: "I heard on the news the other day that 60 is the new 40 so that makes me about 31 if I did the math right." I could see that familiar look on their faces that let me know that they were "doin' the math." My point is that according to the revisionist view, 60 is the new 40, that would make you 20 again.
Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday. Whether your wife and kids buy you a gun for your birthday or not, you deserve one!

Happy b'day Mike .......... believe me - that ''40 milestone'' soon fades into obscurity and before you know it, it's ''hello 50'' and then ''hello 60''!!
Just give thanks you made it thus far and go on living every day as if it's your last - it sure helps make for some better appreciation of this wonderful gift we call life.
Take care dude - you got lotsa years ahead I sure hope.
