Man accidentally shoots himself in head
A man was killed Friday morning when he accidentally shot himself in the head at a Riverside firing range.
Police were called at about 10:15 a.m. to the shooting at the Riverside Magnum indoor public shooting range in the 12000 block of Sampson Avenue in Riverside, Riverside police Lt. Paul Villanueva said in a report.
Police said Alexander Charles Ross, 26, of Riverside had been there for about six minutes when he accidentally shot himself once in the head while loading a handgun. Security cameras at the privately owned firing range showed that the shooting appeared to be accidental, Villanueva said.
The man was shot with a .40 caliber handgun and died at the shooting range.
I changed the thread title, as it seems unfair to aim the incident at any one state!! Foolish people exist everywhere
Certainly a wierd ''accident'' - due no doubt to total lack of observance of even one of the four rules. .40 cal to head sure sounds pretty terminal.
Somewhat of a challenge tho to conjure up a picture of quite how this was achieved - I guess Darwin notches up another!!
I imagine he was loading it?
That makes me think of the YouTube video I saw recently of the dufus shooting a Glock at a range, where he must have had a jam or misfire or something.
This guy turns the muzzle toward his face and starts to look down the bore of his loaded gun
I'm with Chris.
I still cannot figure out how someone could do that while loading.
I'm guessing he put in a mag, the dropped the slide while the gun was not pointing downrange, finger on the trigger?
Maybe scratching his head (had an itch)?
Checking to see if the barrel was clear?
I don't see how you could do it either.
Taking the slow, the stupid, and the infirmed since animal ate animal.
Actually, as a Californian I think we have a higher share of foolish idiots. In fact, we have so many that every couple of years we send several dozen of them to Washington D.C. and Sacramento.

You have been found guilty of political incorrectness. You will attend a sensitivity training class tutored by Nancy Pelosi for six-weeks. :nono:

Unless it was suicidal...made to look accidental (insurance)...just thoughts.
Suicide, not accident?
It is really hard for me to imagine how one could accidentally shoot onesself in the head at an indoor range. Sadly, a few months back there was a suicide at the local range I go to. I hate to second guess the pros who looked at the security tape, but it sounds awfully too weird for an accident.
