In several of our school districts, parents are no longer allowed to bring home-baked goods for class snacks or parties(sorry, celebrations - party is no longer PC) because the schools are unable to determine if there might be a meth lab in the house... you can bring something for the class, but only if it is store bought and sealed.

In my home county the Narc Task Force busts over 700 meth labs a year - and that number was from at least 4 years ago. The stuff is everywhere. A buddy of mine was dating a girl on the stuff and she crashed her car and left him to die. (he did)
I think it should be legal (at least federally) and let stupid people do what they want to themselves.

I moved to AZ my jr year of High school. Phx az is a wannabe calif, so everyone trys and pretends to be superficial, onlything worse than a cali yuppie is a wannabe yuppie, anyway the methhead kids were the only people that were 'accepting' of the new guy. I got involved with them, but never tried the stuff. They knew it was destroying thier lives and surprisingly (or maybe just greedily) encouraged me to never do it. ALL 9 kids are dead. And the meth-mouth/face decay happens within months. disgusting.

There was a day when I might have agreed with you but over the years I've seen all the damage stupid people have done to others around them who are usually innocent bystanders. Lives destroyed, finances ruined and kids and families lives made hell. So I can't agree with it anymore. Stupid behavior that harms others has to be illegal or we'd be even worse off than we are.

I think you have a good point, but I'd like to restate the fact that I've got chronic back pain. My doctor isn't allowed to prescribe something that would help during the most difficult of times. No BS...he knows I'm not a pillhead (the first prescription he wrote was something that lasted quite a while and was used ONLY in extreme cases of pain), but he can't regularly issue Oxycotin in Kentucky because of the same idiots who cook meth here. Pills and meth are the salad of choice around here, after all.

My point is that I'm a victim with more than one degree of separation. My family is vicitmized because, when I'm in bad shape, I'm OUT OF COMMISSION. Think of a team of pygmys with ice picks playing Stab Your Spinal Cord to the tune of Unchained Melody under your shirt. It sucks, and no amount of Advil, Aleve or asprin helps. Even taking the mighty Lortab is like throwing a brick in the grand canyon (but doc can't really prescribe too much of that, either, anyway).

    My recourse? Several options...

1.) Move to another state. Leaving my beloved Kentucky Home would tear me apart. In the short time I've lived here, I've set deep roots. And my wife is a horse vet...Kentucky makes the most sense for us. And why should we move because of the degenerates?

2.) Get prescriptions from Canada or Mexico. I'm stubborn, but not stupid. Even if it were legal, who knows what you're getting?

3.) Succumb to the same degenerative habits of 'scoring' illicit sources of medicine and conduct myself with the behavior that perpetuates the whole issue in the first place. Would you? I'd rather suffer alone at home than in the poke with 900 other convicted felons.

Gary Johnson, who was the governor of my great home state of New Mexico back in the 90's, had an interesting idea. It relied on adults making independent, educated choices about thier options in life. He thought that to legalize and standardize ALL drugs (yes, even heroin) and create treatment programs for those that abused was the way to go (similarly to the way we treat alcohol now). The first wave of use will NOT be a surge. It will be a turning from blackmarket to legitimate business, and addiction will come to the forefront as a treatable illness.

Not ideal, but maybe George Carlin had the right spin on Anderson's idea...

"Take all the addicts, rapists, murderers and thieves and put them in a walled-in Montana (sorry, Montana residents...all eleven of you...get out). Then you give them as much guns, whisky and PCP and let them fight it out until there is just one left and then you take him out and you shoot him in the f*%#n' head. "

Not bad. Can I pull the trigger?

I just think it falls under socialism. People on drugs commit crimes against other people all the time....why can't we just charge them for that? Why do we have to make the drugs themselves illegal? Its like guns aren't allowed - that way if you catch a known criminal and can't prove he committed a crime, at least you can charge him with "illegal possession of a gun." Its nickel and diming - the charges never really do anything. I don't like laws like that. JMO though.

i HATE drugs. The selfish drug users and the victimized families. I ran with the party party crowd in high school. never touched drugs just drank. Every once in awhile I hear that another one of my party friends are dead from ODing or something stupid. i feel bad for their mothers and fathers and their little brothers and sisters. How do you tell your 12 year old sibling that your sister/brother is dead because of drugs.

That is another thing that I have the upmost respect for police. Having to tell parents that their kids are deceased. I couldn't do it.

Got news for you...you did drugs. The argument that alcohol is not a drug is a circular bout of semantics. The only reason it is not classified as a drug by SOME is that it is legally available without a prescription (but so is Advil). It is, by every other definition, a drug.
