    Evil Kenivel Dies....

I was a kid when he was really, really popular and I remember the bad crash at the hotel in Vegas.

He was 69 and he dies Friday. Like him or hate him, he was an American Icon and he's gone now.

He sure was the ultimate daredevil.
I don't think he had even one remaining bone in his body that was not broken multiple times.

Evel was a strange one. Intersting guy. I remember the Snake River jump attempt. I remember a handful of skids and crashes on the far side of ramps that he overshot. I also remember the look of sheer joy as he did what he seemingly loved to do. Look at the bright side: his local Walgreen's pharmacy can now keep its ibuprofen in stock. R.I.P.

My Halloween costume in the 2nd grade was Evil Knievel, I guess that was about 1976. I remember he was all the rage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-PKx...eature=related
Imagine how good he would have been on a bike with modern suspension.
I got many a skint knee because of that guy, if it could be jumped on a huffy I tried it.

I had a lunch box with Evel on it in the Mid 70's, I built many ramps and got a broken rib trying to imitate him on my bike!

Thank you so much for resurrecting that old memory. Dang. Thought I had completely gotten past that one.

Picture this: I made a rap. Got the bicycle up to ~25mph or so. While midway up the ramp, the ramp decided to take a dump. No more ramp ... at 25mph no less. No broken bones, but I was out like a light, for a time. I figured Evel knew what he was about, with that parachute, helmet, EMT van nearby.

Now, I shoot firearms. Much, much safer.

I used to love to watch him when he jumped. I've watch a lot of jumps and the one that I really remember is when he tried to jump the snake river on my Birthday!

Saw a documentary on his life (History Channell?) just a few short months ago. I remember the cartoon & my friend had all his toys.

I couldn't ride a bicycle yet w/o training wheels, so I imitated him (in my mind, jumping cars) on the swing set.

    Yup, I was a youngin'

This is one of the few times when l feel that we are all less. As a result of his loss l do not laud his personal life . As most of us know it was less than perfect.
What l personally will miss is his uniquely American persona (can do)
and his showmanship which took him from a dusty little town where he started to jump . To a world class entertainer.

A small part of America has again passed away. He had his share of problems, for sure, but he was a proud American...RIP

He did all those crazy stunts during my much younger years!

I have many scars and destroyed a few Huffy's trying to be like him. We would build all kinds of stuff to jump our bikes on.

One time, they were building a new house in our neighborhood. Me and my buddies built a dirt ramp and tried to jump the hole dug for the basement. We invited a bunch of other kids to come and watch. One kid broke his arm, and that was the first Huffy I destroyed. I dont know how I didnt break anything other than the bike.

Evel gave us lots of "good" ideas and created some great childhood "character building" memories.

They ran a special yesterday, and they showed several interviews with Evil. I, too, tried a ram jump when several of us built a ram at the local park. I had a very small framed, fast bike, hit the ram perfectly, and heard something hit my rear wheel; it was the seat. I kicked the bike out from under me, hit on my feet, and rolled quite a bit. That was a far better solution than the alternate! Thanks for causing me to try it Evil. (Actually, that was before Evil; I was just stupid!)
